Hawthorne Happenings
News for the City of Good
Neighbors from an Old Guy
Named Norb Huber
Winter Wonderland
It’s finally here. The Parks and
Recreation and Community Services
Department of the City of Hawthorne’s
Winter Wonderland had snow, games, gifts,
food, fun and a real Santa and Ms. Claus.
It’s this Thursday, December 20th from 5
to 9 p.m. at the Memorial Center and Park.
Tickets can be purchased at the gate, but be
sure to get there early, the line was long last
year. Start your Christmas celebration off with
a great family activity. Thank you City of
Hawthorne for putting on such a nice event.
Hawthorne Historical Society
Elects New Officers
An election for the 2019 officers of the
Hawthorne Historical Society took place
recently. The following Hawthorne residents
were elected: President: Bob Jensen, VP: Pam
Fees, Secretary: Sue King, Treasurer: Richard
F. Huhn. Board members: Jim Phillips,
Lee Leonard, Al Richards, Tim Hagerty,
Loretta Hagerty. The new leadership looks
forward to increasing membership in the Society
and undertaking many new projects in
2019. Congratulations to the new board and
celebrate Hawthorne past, present and future.
Time to Quit? No it’s a time to
Celebrate!
Maybe, just maybe, the end of 2018
would be a good time for me to hang up
this Hawthorne Happenings gig. It’s been
a good run. You’ve heard all of my spiel.
Hearing me tell you to relax and enjoy life
gets old after a while. Maybe the
handwriting is on the wall, maybe
my time has come and gone. There
is a time to be stupid and time to
just shut up. Like it says in the book
of Ecclesiastes: “There is a time for
everything, and a season for every
activity under the heavens: a time to
be born and a time to die, a time to plant
and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a
time to heal, a time to tear down and a time
to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time
to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a
time to embrace and a time to refrain from
embracing, a time to search and a time to
give up, a time to keep and a time to throw
away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a
time to be silent and a time to speak, a time
to love and a time to hate, a time for war
and a time for peace.” Ecclesiastes 3:1-8.
Tell me Christmas is not a time to quit. Tell
me to just have a cold one and forget about
quitting. Now is not the time to stress out
about things. It’s a time to celebrate, celebrate
the birth of Jesus, our Savior. It’s a time to
enjoy family, friends, food, and yes football.
Okay, you have convinced me to come back
for another week. Now, enjoy, be full of joy,
don’t be a quitter, don’t give up, rejoice and
be glad, have a cold one, remember that God
loves you just the way you are so you can
love and accept others just the way they are,
and finally, have a Blessed, Merry, Cheery,
Christmas celebration.
