Hawthorne Happenings
News for the City of Good
Neighbors from an Old Guy
Long-time civic volunteer and VFW
member, Carol Steinhauer sent me an
email asking me to please let everyone
know that this event is open to the
public and will be a great way to
celebrate Veterans Day on the 11th.
Election Day - Next
Tuesday
If you have not mailed in your ballot yet,
then get to the polling place next Tuesday
and vote. Your vote matters not only for
our City Council members, City Clerk and
City Treasurer, but for all of the California
measures. Do you like the way our state
is headed? Do you like paying the 12 cent
gasoline tax? Do you think we need change
in our city council or have the incumbents
done a good job? There are all kinds of
questions to be asked and our democratic
system will allow the citizens to determine
what direction we will go. No matter who
is elected or which measures pass or not
pass, I know that we are directed to show
respect to those in authority and to obey the
civic laws that are put in place. We read
in Romans 13:1 “ Let everyone be subject
to the governing authorities, for there is no
authority except that which God has established.
The authorities that exist have been
established by God.” God does not tell us to
send pipe bombs to people we disagree with.
He doesn’t tell us to insult and form mobs to
disrupt the lives of those who have different
views than us. The greatness of America
is that we are diverse, we can disagree, we
are not forced to worship the same God or
prescribe to a certain teaching. We believe
that everyone has the right to life, liberty
and the pursuit of happiness. Now, go vote
and then come home, crack open a cold one
and forget about the fact that you voted for
all the losers and every measure passed that
you voted against. If I ran again, I would
promise a “cold one in everyone’s fridge”.
I might even get 18 or 19 of you to vote for
me. No I’m not running, I would rather let
God use me in other ways, like telling you
that you have nothing to worry about because
God promises to be with you no matter what
you are going through. Cold ones get stale,
my column gets sorry, we’re all getting older,
but God’s Word and his promises never fail,
never get stale or sorry. Have fun, enjoy
the life God has given you.

Named Norb Huber
Lazy
- on vacation - retired
Where was I last week? No HH. No
Huber Happenings. No meanderings.
No stupid stuff to laugh at. No talk about
cold ones and God. Okay, admit it, a few
of you missed me. The rest of you were up
all night watching the Dodgers win and then
lose and then lose. I promised not to say
anything about the Dodgers. But, you all
deserve a cold one after that roller coaster
ride of a World Series. One minute the men
in Blue are looking like champions and then
all of a sudden the Red Stockings are knocking
the LA pitchers around. I just wish the
president would keep his tweets out of sports
and sports guys would stop making political
statements. Why ruin my fun by bringing
politics in. It’s just a game. I’m sure glad
I’m not a stupid politician like I was in my
younger days. Anyways, I got lazy, was up
in North Lake Tahoe at a friend’s timeshare
resort last week and I’m, as you all know,
retired so I didn’t get around to writing this
stinkin’ blurb last week. I missed you guys.
Hope you all are doing well.
Veterans Celebrations
November is here and the holiday early in
the month is Veterans Day. The Hawthorne
Veterans Commission will be hosting their
4 th Annual Veterans Day Celebration on
Saturday, November 10th at 7 p.m. at the

been a very popular and fun event. Music

agenda. We really do owe our veterans a lot
of recognition for serving us. This event is a
great way to show our appreciation.
