Hawthorne Happenings
News for the City of Good
Neighbors from an Old Guy
Named Norb Huber
Election Filing
Period Deadline
Here is the last call for any Hawthorne
voters who are interested in
running for city office and being on the
election ballot this November. The deadline
for filing for City Council and for City
Treasurer is August 10th. The deadline to
file papers to run for City Clerk is August
15th. So, don’t delay, go to the City Clerk’s
office ASAP to find out what you need to do
this week to run and serve your community.
SpaceX and Boeing To Send
Humans Up to SpaceStation
The race is on to see which company can
get humans up to the International SpaceStation
safely first. The comment was made that
because of all the technological advancements
made over the past decades, that the new
capsules are as easy as driving an iPhone
and not like the approximately 3,000 switches
and meters that were involved with the old
Space Shuttle capsules. NASA is gearing
up to get people to the moon and to Mars
in concoction with the private companies. It
won’t be long before Elon will achieve his
goal of inhabiting Mars. Hawthorne once
again will be leading the way.
Fires
I read where some firefighters have been
away from their families for 250 or more days
fighting the wildfires of the West during the
past year. Our forests and mountainous areas
are very dry. Some of the trees are dead
already before the fires hit. There is much
beetle bark infection in the Sierra Mountains.
The smoke has been bad throughout the San
Joaquin Valley. Once you drive down the
Grapevine on Interstate 5, the thick black
layer of ashy smoke can be seen for miles in
all directions. To me, it smells like a large
campfire is burning when the wind blows it
our way. Thousands of homes and out buildings
have been lost and it seems like there
are evacuations going on almost every day.
There are really no areas of our state not
being affected by the uncontrollable fires. I
am located here in Orangevale about equal
distance between the Carr fire in Redding,
the Ferguson Fire outside of Yosemite and
the largest wild fire in the history
of CA in Lake County. We pray for
protection for all of the men and
women doing battle every day to try
to contain the damage.
Hot August Nights
One of the largest car shows in the
entire USA is going on right now in
Reno, Virginia City and Sparks, Nevada. It
runs for a good two weeks and is advertised
as “Hot August Nights”. Thousands of cars
and spectators make a point to see all of the
classic cars that take them back to when
cruising on a Saturday night was the only
thing in town. Some of the celebrity car
collectors have some of their cars on display.
It is very impressive to such a grand display
of automobiles.
Mt. Adams
If you are really looking for some
interesting times, then take a trip to Mt.
Adams up in Washington State. One of my
loyal readers mentioned the fact that this
mountain is know for its UFO sightings.
There is a ranch there that people camp
at and every night joining with the many
campers to watch the comings and goings
of some extraterrestrial flying ships. There
is a large opening in the mountain that even
looks like a hangar for the saucers to park in.
Wow! I never heard of any UFO sightings
in Hawthorne.
God and Cold Ones
I’ve been rather lax in my musing about
how God and cold ones solve all of our
problems. I have mentioned my ol’ lady a
few times but not too much on how much
God loves us and how we should just relax
and have a cold one and enjoy life. Even
in retirement I need to remind myself not
to get too stressed out about things. Life is
just a few short days, years, and decades put
together. The Bible tells us to “number our
days”. Make the most of our time here on
earth. What are the important things in life?
We are to love God and love others. So,
why stress the little things. God is control.
Put our trust in Him and we have nothing
to worry about. So, there it is, my signature
message. Oh yes, after we get our priorities
straight, head directly to the icebox and have
a cold one. Is that more like it? Enjoy your
day, week, year and life.
