News for the City of Good
Neighbors from an Old Guy
Named Norb Huber
Names
“If you don’t have nutin’ good to
say about someone, then keep your
mouth shut.” We have all heard that
line. But it’s so fun to talk about others.
A lot of times we try to describe someone
with a name. It’s okay to say someone is
a knucklehead or maybe even an airhead,
but don’t call him or her an idiot or retarded
or stupid. Maybe the politically correct
term now would be mentally challenged.
Believe me, we have all heard these names
thrown around and maybe thrown our way.
I’ve been called an idiot, stupid and a fool
many a day by my extended family. Of course
it helps to know that they are just joking
and I love to send it right back at them. In
the Book of Proverbs we read of the contrast
between those who would be wise
and those who would be foolish.
When the Bible speaks of foolishness,
it speaks of a moral and spiritual
condition. It’s not talking about a
person that lacks prowess or a low
IQ. There are actually four levels
of fools in Proverbs: The simple
fool is a person who is easily deceived,
gullible. The generic fool is the gullible
fool who doesn’t learn from their mistakes.
The stubborn fool is set in their ways,
hardened and persistent to do things their
way. Finally, we read of the godless fool
whose mind is closed, he firmly believes
there is no God, and is harsh and mean to
all around him. When we say to someone,
“you fool”, we are usually saying that
he’s done something stupid. Usually, when
I just react to a situation without much
thought, I say or do something stupid. But,
your business YOUR NAME
your dreams
