Hawthorne Hotspot Holiday Cheer! By Samantha Schmidt Intro Hello Hawthorne neighbors! I hope you all celebrated a festive and safe Thanksgiving with your loved ones. I understand that Thanksgiving were not exactly what everyone imagined but what’s important is that we still gave thanks and give ourselves gratitude for making it this far into 2020. As we all know, Christmas is right around corner and unfortunately, we need to stay home again. However, I still believe that there is nothing wrong in shedding a bit of light and positivity for this year’s holiday. On top of that, Christmas is my favorite holiday of the year and I want to share a couple of Covid-19 friendly alternatives to maintain the festive in this year’s Christmas. A Special and Safe Christmas Sleepy Hallows At a young age, I always enjoyed walking around the neighborhood and gazing at the bright decorated houses. The neighbors would sell hot chocolate and the parents would take pictures of their kids in front of a snowman. It was my favorite part during the holiday season and got me hyped when Christmas would come around. However, with Covid-19, I realized I can’t do that holiday tradition with my friends anymore. One day, I stumbled upon my friend’s Instagram story and saw her driving through a neighborhood with immensely decorated houses. I messaged her about the place and she told me that it’s called Sleepy Hallows! Before, you could walk around but now with Covid-19 regulation, you can also do a drive-thru! To add, it’s free! If you would like to take a nice little trip with friends and family, Sleepy Hallows takes place in Torrance 5200-5799 South PCH, mayor, Torrance, CA. Sleepy Hallows will be open from Mondays – Sundays starting at 6pm-10pm. It’s a great way to start the holiday spirit. Drive Thru Movie Nights Looking to escape your couch for a bit and watch something?  Christmas movies are a perfect way to have fun with your loved ones while eating snacks and popcorn! You get to combine two things that we love about Los Angeles: appreciation in movie making and enjoy the outdoors a bit! Luckily, Hawthorne is hosting a movie night for free admission! On Saturday, December 19th, Hawthorne will be playing How The Grinch Stole Christmas! You must register online between the 16th and 17th of December due to limited space. Also, snacks will be available for $10. If you would like to RSVP go to www.cityofhawthorne.org. There is also the famous drive thru movie theatre The Roadium. They will be playing holiday movies all through January 8, 2021! It’s only $30 per vehicle and there will be snacks available! If you want to look more into their movies and buy tickets go to http:// roadium.com/drive-in-movies/.
