I am also proud to say that I’m a first-generation student attending college and recently received my certification as a Lash Tech. A: I concluded that money comes and goes. I want to feel successful. Working on daily growth and evolving into a better person each day allows me to feel successful.
Q: Do you have someone that supports you regardless of your ability to be successful?
A: Yes, I have all my mom’s support. She has taught me to take different routes regardless of the lack of success because it will build my independence and enforce my choice making. I also have my boyfriend who has stuck by every decision I’ve made. He gives me advice and the freedom to make any choice that makes me the most comfortable. I also have my best friend Samantha Schmidt who motivates me to do better for my future. I’ve seen her work hard these past two years at Santa Monica College. I love our friendship and know we will do amazing things in the future. Q: Advice to someone who is in your shoes as an undocumented.
A: Although being undocumented is hard, it’s not the worst. Become open-minded and value every single opportunity that may benefit you and when it doesn’t learn from it. Although there are certain disadvantages, do not settle for them. My Thoughts I’ve known Sophia since I was 14 years old, a freshman in high school. I find it ironic how she was the first person I met in our summer bridge, a seminar for incoming freshmen, and we did not become close until our senior year. From what I know through our friendship, she is the most charismatic and hardworking individual I know. She constantly cares for the feelings of others and cherishes the people around her. Our friendship is the best one I’ve had in almost three years. We check up on each other constantly and motivate one another to be successful. We celebrate our achievements rather engage than in jealousy. Because of her story, I hope to interview others like her, who want to use their voice to empower others and motivate them that the lack of some papers does not define their success. • the moons of Uranus.
