Anderson Girls Run First 5K
William Anderson’s fifth grade girls running club completed their first 5k this weekend at the Torrance Armed Forces Day 5k Run. After 10 weeks of training, 33 girls and 16 adults ran a 5k! The 10-week training program incorporated three days of running each week,
along with lessons on self-esteem, body image, goal-setting and nutrition. This comprehensive program aimed to strengthen each girl’s body image while teaching them the skills needed to run a 5k. It is truly a collaborative effort between the school’s administration, social
workers, PTA, District Wellness Coordinator, District Food Services, COPA, and classroom teachers and staff. Laura Schmitz, who is a fourth grade teacher, implemented this program four years ago and looks forward to continuing this program in the future! “I am so proud
of the girls! Seeing the girls cross the finish line with such pride and excitement makes it all worthwhile,” she said. Photo Provided by Laura Schmitz

aerobics was better, a good workout with out
the stress of hitting concrete while running on
the streets. Of course the scantly clothed ladies
drinking their margaritas at the pool bar made
for some beautiful scenery. I did use my global
entry card for the first time while coming back
through customs in San Diego. It was a little
scary that the facial recognition camera was able
to print out all of my vital data by just taking
my photo. I didn’t even have to show my card.
Now, any where I go, a camera will be able to
pick me out of the crowd. I guess I won’t be able
to be a Mule any longer, the government has
my ID. Maybe the Feds won’t pull me over any
more, since now they know who I am. Anyway,
it’s great to be back in the USA so I can pay
$4.00 per gallon for gas. Heck, I could get a
couple of cold ones down in Mexico for 80
pesos. If we simply got all of the world leaders
together for a few cold ones, we could solve
many of our problems. Just relax and enjoy,
why worry about a few pesos here or there.
