Day. It will be held at the Ayers Hotel.

Capelouto, Ted & Dana Gioia, and Betta St.
John. If you have lived in Hawthorne for
any time at all, you will want to be there

dedicated people who have made the City
of Good Neighbors a great place.
Hawthorne High Cougars
Cruise Night
Saturday night, May 18th has been selected
as a night for all former HHS Cougars to
return to an old gathering spot, Foster’s Freeze,
on the Blvd. In tribute to John Baker, who
was Mr. Cougartown.com, a group of alums
have scheduled this night to meet talk, renew
friendships and relive some old memories.
The event will go from 5 to 10 p.m. and
Foster’s is located at 11969 S. Hawthorne
Blvd. Go Cougars!
K9 Community Dinner
The Spring Community Dinner has
always been put in support of the K-9 squad
of the Hawthorne Police Department. The
Hawthorne Presidents’ Council has been
sponsoring this event for over 30 years. This
year the dinner will be held on Thursday,
May 23rd from 5 – 6:45 p.m. at the
Hawthorne Memorial Center. Tickets
are only $5 for a great chicken dinner,
with a presentation put on by
the K-9’s themselves, and followed
by an auction of some really nice
prizes. This always is a great family
fun thing to bring the kids to. They
get to see the dogs in action. Tickets are
available at the door.
Good Line:
“Beer is good, Beers are better!” Need I
say anything else? Have a cold one! Keep it
short and sweet this week. No need to go on
and on about how having a cold one solves
all your problems. A loyal reader said that
she enjoys reading my column even if I’m
a little corny. I take that as a compliment.
I’ve heard a lot of names thrown at me
over the years, but I have not been called
“corny” in quite awhile, even though I was
born a “Cornhusker” from the great state of
Nebraska. You won’t have me to kick around
next week. Me and my ol’ lady have been
invited to spend some quality time together
with friends who have a timeshare in Cabo,
Mexico. So, you can relax, you can miss me,
you can find your way on your own to the
refrigerator and you can have several cold
ones. I’ll be back in two weeks. Remember,
God loves you and there is absolutely
nothing you can do about it.
