faced North Torrance in a game the locals
won 11-10. The Golden Eagles got things
started in the first inning with a sacrifice by
Stevens scoring a run. Trailing in the fourth
inning the Golden Eagles tied the game at
7-7 when Auriana Barragan was hit by a
pitch with the bases loaded, driving in the
tying run.
With the game tied as time expired, extra
innings were required to determine the
winner. In the top of the fifth, Kehl had a
two-run single and built a four-run to 11-7.
North Torrance’s rally was cut short with the
tying run on third and the winning run on
second to end the game. Ava Martinez led
the offense going three-for-three at the plate.

The Golden Eagles then went on to face
Torrance in the semifinals resulting in a

fielder’s choice to go up 1-0, but that would
be their only lead of the game. The Golden
Eagles pulled away for good with three runs
in the second inning. Naranjo had an RBI
double, Osby had a sacrifice fly scoring the
go-ahead run, and Mabel Furer had an RBI
single. In the fifth inning, the Golden Eagles
rallied for five runs when Smith had an
RBI double, an error scored the second run,
and Campos doubled, scoring the third run.

to 9-1. Torrance answered with five runs of
their own but came up short. Mangiagli started
and lasted two innings, allowing one run on
two hits. Stevens is credited as the winning
pitcher, allowing four hits and striking out
one. Naranjo tossed two innings for the save.
The win over Torrance put the Golden
Eagles in the Championship game against their
pool play nemesis Cerritos Rampage. They
fell behind early and could not come back
in a 9-5 loss against the Cerritos Rampage.
Cerritos took a 9-0 lead before the Golden
Eagles were able to get their offense going
in the fifth inning. Iizzy Mangiagli, Cierra
Contreras, and Eileen Osby each singled,
Campos was hit by a pitch forcing in a run,
and Kaycie Naranjo hit a double, scoring two
more runs. The Golden Eagles comeback
rally was cut short and fell 9-5. Osby led the
offense and went two-for-two at the plate.
Though they suffered a disappointing
loss in the championship game, the Golden
Eagles had a great season. The future of El
Segundo softball looks to be promising and
loaded with talent.
Eagles Start their Season
The high school basketball season is in full
swing. El Segundo started their season with
a convincing 63-43 win over Chadwick. The
Eagles jumped on the Dolphins early on and
cruised to the victory. Preston Engle led his
team with 30 points and five assists. In their
second game, the Eagles fell to Palos Verdes
66-43 in what turned out to be a controversial
contest. The CIF has set guidelines on
indoor participation, which include mandating
masks for participants. The Eagles were in
full compliance, but several Palos Verdes
players were not while participating.
The Eagles are participating in the Wiseburn-
DaVinci Tournament this week and face Palm
Desert on Friday at 6 p.m. The tournament’s
final games are Saturday, with times TBD.
Babe Ruth Fall Ball
Wraps Up Their Season
The El Segundo Babe Ruth League’s Fall
Ball completed their nine-week schedule playing
games each Saturday. The three teams
were able to field nearly fifty players under
the coaching staffs of the Angels, Oaks, and
Beavers. It was another successful season
that was instructional to get these players
ready for the league that starts up next May. •
