EL SEGUNDO HERALD November 17, 2016 Page 15 Wowser Schnauzers Cubbie Holmes Happy Tails Randy is living the good life in West LA! rescued from an Inland Empire shelter. I was there for almost three weeks and no one was interested in adopting me. Maybe it’s because I’m a big guy weighing in at about 25 pounds, but that’s the perfect size to play ball. I can catch, run and you don’t have to worry about me getting underfoot! I’m super friendly and get along great with other dogs. I’m a good-looking guy and since I’ve had my dental done, my smile sparkles like a World Series Trophy!” If you’re interested in Rizzo, please email info@msfr.org for more information. Bet you can’t adopt just one! “Hello, my name is Cubbie and I like the Chicago Cubs, I’m definitely a world-class winner. I was rescued from an LA County shelter after being brought in as a stray. I’m not sure what a stray is, but I’m pretty certain that I’m a one-year old female Miniature Schnauzer with a docked tail, a bit of a longer body and a weight of 14 pounds. Our vet took one look at my adorable puppy face and, after examining me, determined that I am probably closer to nine months old than I am to a year. I absolutely love to play with my stuffed toys and am having so much fun learning to walk on a leash. I get along great with other dogs, enjoy a good game of fetch and would make a great team member.” If you are interested in Cubbie, please email info@msfr.org for more information. “They call me Rizzo and just like the first baseman of the World Series-winning Chicago Cubs, I like to play ball! I’m a four-year old, male purebred Miniature Schnauzer who was “It’s absolutely amazing what a makeover can do for a guy’s confidence. I’m a 1.5-year old, male purebred Miniature Schnauzer rescued from an LA city shelter. My name is Holmes (as in Sherlock Holmes) and I guess they named me that because my ‘pedigree’ was a mystery. I was such a neglected, dirty, matted mess that I was hardly recognizable as a Schnauzer – it was just a guess. The shelter volunteers were so nice and took pity on me. They spent quite a bit of time grooming me so that I would be presentable. Ta-da! Underneath that mess the real me -- a loving, energetic guy who like other dogs and loves to play -- finally emerged. At 18 pounds, I’m still a lap dog who would make a great companion for your family.” If you are interested in Holmes, please email info@msfr.org for more information. “If you’re looking for an adorable, fivemonth old male Miniature Schnauzer mix, I’m definitely your guy! I was rescued from an LA County shelter where they called me a stray, but I prefer to think of myself as adventurous. They named me Sherlock – maybe it’s because we’re still sleuthing to see what my ‘mix’ is – and I’m not certain exactly how big I’ll get. My approximate date of birth is May 2016. When I was four months old, I weighed 12 pounds. Based on that, the best guesstimate I can give you is that I could be 30 pounds when fully grown. I think it’s just the right size for an energetic, happy guy who likes other dogs and loves to play. In addition to a handsome face, I have a wonderful, sweet personality and am very submissive when I encounter other dogs and new people.” Sherlock can be seen by appointment at Yellow Brick Road Doggy Playcare in El Segundo Call 310-606-5507 or email southbaydoggie@hotmail.com for an appointment or more information. • Congratulations to Randy, our mid-June rescue who had been dumped by his owner and his new family. This 3.5-month old pup had some real behavioral issues that included little socialization skills and being pretty dominant. With the help of the folks at Yellow Brick Road Doggie Daycare and a lot of patience, he has blossomed. We’re happy to Be kind. Save a life. A community meeting may be in the works to discuss possible permit parking as well as other issues. Southern California Edison (SCE) representatives came up to the podium on the heels of last Friday’s lengthy power outage that affected large areas of the community, lasted most of the afternoon and forced several restaurants to close, among other negative impacts. The incident was the result of “an older cable that went bad between two structures,” according to SCE District Operations Manager Paul Hennessey. But on that Friday, it was unclear what caused the disruption, with four possible explanations bandied about depending on whom you asked. “No one had a good answer,” Boyles said. Citizens can arrange to receive alerts (through “my account”) from SCE via their preferred communication medium when power is lost—and can also track outages (www.sce.com/outages). Edison also has a customer app to access information, as well as a 24/7 phone number to report outages (1-800-611-1911). Hennessey added that SCE will have a heavy presence in El Segundo in 2017 with infrastructure replacement and circuitry upgrades in the works. •
