The Jewelry Source held a contest and
asked people to tell us: “What your favorite
piece of jewelry is and why?” A winner was
pulled from the top 25 entries and won a
Grand Prize of a $1,000 shopping spree at
The Jewelry Source:
The winner is: Joanie Mueller, who wrote
the following:
My favorite piece of jewelry was given to
me the morning of my only son’s wedding
by his bride to-be: a silver heart charm with
the following words: You held him first, you
loved him first and a place in his heart will
always be yours! Thank you for trusting
me with a piece of your heart. Love, Petra

Enjoy some other submissions:
It is my wedding diamond and a simple
wedding band, as well as our 50th anniversary
ring from the Jewelry Source. We had
all three rings made together at the Jewelry
Source and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it.
– Sandy Gutt
A ring I bought here (The Jewelry Source)
a few years ago. It is a sliver band with
diamonds. I bought it with my own money
when I got a big promotion. My wedding
ring was a plain gold band. I much prefer
silver over gold. I am a widow and got to
choose what I want.
– Cyd Thornton
My great-aunt Martha lived in East
Germany behind the Iron Curtain in the
1950s. She was on rations and had very
little to live off of. While we were based in
Germany as my father was in the Air Force
-- she was allowed to visit us for four days
and then forced to return. It was the first
and the last time I ever met her. An old little
lady with white hair, beautiful skin and gray
eyes. She gave me in front of my mother
(her niece) a very dainty, sterling silver
ring with a tiny blue sapphire. I thought it
was the most beautiful piece of jewelry I’d
ever seen and now as I have aged, it still is
because of the love she had for her niece
and grand-niece when she had nothing but
a desire to be with us.
– Dolores McAllister
My favorite piece of jewelry other then
my wedding rings (purchased at Jewelry
Source) is a sapphire necklace. The stone
came from my grandmother and I made it
into a necklace after my first son was born
in the month of September. Thank you for
sharing the valve of precious stones.
– Christy de Loera
My husband gave me the perfect gift after
our daughter was born. With my due date in
April, he decided to use the birthstone and
selected a diamond-studded pendant. After
Lilly was born, he called the jeweler to have
him engrave the front with a clock showing
the time I became a mother and her name
and birthdate on the back. He surprised my
with it a few days after her birth. I love it
and the thought that went into it. Another
pendant can be added for our next child who
is due soon!
– Franny Matsel
My favorite piece of jewelry is a pendant
I had made when my best friend, my dog
Whittman, passed away. On one side is his
paw print, the other his initial, and inside
are his ashes. It brings me so much comfort
to have a tangible way to always have him
with me. Every time I look in the mirror and
see it around my neck I think of the many
hours we spent playing fetch at the beach,
his excitement every time I walked though
the front door, snuggling on the couch after
a long day, exploring a new city together and
the many other memories we created together.
– Christine Enzler
My favorite piece of jewelry is my silver
cross with small diamonds. It’s my favorite
because of what it represents and also because
I bought one each for my daughter and my
daughter-in-law. That makes me feel the
close bond we have.
– Susan Coulbourne
My favorite piece of jewelry is my engagement
ring. The Jewelry Source helped my
fiancé select the perfect emerald-cut diamond
fro me. This week is my 20th year wedding
anniversary. My ring sparkles just as brightly
today as the day I received it in a perfectly
wrapped box. Thank you, Jewelry Source.

Do not close The Lakes. It’s a great golf
course and nicely manicured. We go after
work and then out to dinner. It’s a great
ladies night out. Please don’t close it.

West Basin Commemorates Reopening
of El Segundo Water Recycling Facility
West Basin Municipal Water District (West
Basin) celebrated the reopening of the Edward
C. Little Water Recycling Facility (ECLWRF)
Water Education Center in El Segundo during
a ceremony on Thursday, Oct. 3.
The evening consisted of a short speaking
program and ceremonial ribbon cutting,
honoring the legacy of the facility. Congresswoman
Grace Napolitano served as the
keynote speaker, with over 150 water industry
professionals, elected officials, environmental
organizations and esteemed guests gathering
at the facility to recognize the District’s vision
for regional water sustainability through the
District’s enhanced recycled water program.
The renovated Water Education Center
includes new interpretive exhibits that provide
guests with a refreshed educational experience
and enhanced interactive learning opportunities
along the water treatment facility tour route.
Since its opening in 1995, more than 100,000
people, including local school students, college
groups, international delegations, trade groups
and professionals have visited the facility and
participated in facility tours.
West Basin has invested approximately
$600 million in infrastructure and treatment
technologies for its water recycling program.
This includes more than $277 million in
grants and outside investments to assist with
program costs.
The grand reopening ceremony hosted key
water industry power players. Los Angeles
Mayor Eric Garcetti also shared a video message
congratulating West Basin on the success
of its recycled water program and recognizing
the District’s ongoing successful partnership
with the city on its sustainability efforts.
The facility has been closed to the public
during renovations since early 2018 and will
reopen to the public for tours and presentations
in January 2020.

Advisory from Scattergood
Generating Station on Noise Issues
Scattergood Generating Station officials
recently released an advisory to the El
Segundo community thanking residents for
their continued patience as the former tries
to resolve the start-up noise associated with
Generating Units 4 and 5 at Scattergood
Generating Station. Scattergood indicated that
new equipment being installed will significantly
reduce the noise, but it will need to
be tested to ensure satisfactory performance.
Work began last Wednesday and residents
who live near the northeast perimeter of
Scattergood can likely expect to hear the
start-up noise every business day between 2
p.m. and 4 p.m. through Oct. 30. Equipment
will not be tested on weekends and holidays
(including Oct. 24). “We expect that by testing
every day for three weeks, we will be able to
gather as much information as possible about
equipment performance and make potential
repairs, if necessary,” the advisory reads.
Scattergood invited residents to reach out
with feedback during the testing period and
to alert it about any hardships from the noise
that might lead to scheduling adjustments to
accommodate special requests. “However,
please note that we must test the equipment for
three weeks in order to maximize performance
results and delays in the testing will push the
schedule out further,” the advisory notes. “Our
goal is to complete all testing and potential
repairs well before the holiday season.” Those
