In the second quarter with the score 20-6 Danny McEntee scored on an 18-yard TD pass and later on Joey Gorte’s 6-yard burst made it 35-6 at the half. Gunnar Rogers’ interception helped set up Matty Ramos’ TD run in the third quarter that capped the scoring for the Eagles. The Eagles host Culver City today at 3:15pm and look to avenge their only loss last season. Water Polo The Eagles are off to their best start in years. With a 15-2 record the Eagles, ranked second, have made a statement in their first couple Ocean League matchups. They dispensed of Beverly Hills 21-4 and Torrance 23-5 and look to further that statement against Culver City this past Tuesday and today at perennial Ocean League powerhouse Santa Monica. Against Beverly Hills the Eagles dominated from the start and had a 10-1 lead at halftime. The Eagles would have their way against the Normans that included Matt  Marak scoring four goals by stealing the ball from an opponent and taking it to the net.  Kyle Crist then picked up where Marak left off by going on run of his own, scoring four of his five goals with relative ease. Leading the Eagles scoring attack was Matt Marak (6),  Kyle Crist (5),  Ryan Winkler (4),  Kelly Reynolds (3), and Nick Paz, Joe Doucette and Kyle Parker each had one goal. Against Torrance the Eagles cleared their second hurdle in their quest toward an Ocean League championship.  In less than seven minutes the Eagles led 7 to 1 and the lead grew to 12-1 at halftime. From the third period on the players in the water were those who will most likely occupy slots on next season’s team. The barrage of scoring continued as the Eagles led 17 to 3 at the conclusion of the third quarter on their way to 23-5 win. Scoring leaders included Kyle Crist (8),  Kelly Reynolds (5), Matt Marak (3), Kyle Parker (3), Nick Paz (2),  and Ryan Winkler and Aiden Ruesler each scored once. The Eagles are hosting the South Bay Tournament that starts Friday and runs through Saturday. Some of the area’s best teams as well as some of the CIF’s top teams are entered and should be a good barometer of how good the Eagles are. • true freshman quarterback with no big-game experience isn’t going to take your team past the likes of Alabama, Ohio State or any of the other college football powerhouses, though. The experience that Rosen gains this year will benefit the Bruins in coming years. Now, it’s all about how the team responds. Both the Bruins and the Trojans have tough matchups ahead, which indicates that the losing may not yet be over for either team. The Bruins continue their season with matchups against Stanford this week before they take on Cal and Utah later in the season. The Trojans, on the other hand, have an away date with Notre Dame this week before coming back home to face Utah. They then get Cal, Arizona, and Oregon in what is a schedule that will surely have all USC fans clamoring for a new big name as head coach by year’s end. Let’s not forget about a November 28th matchup that is on everyone’s calendar as the Bruins visit the Coliseum to take on their bitter rivals in what is arguable the biggest rivalry game of the college football season. There’s no doubting the fact that both UCLA and USC are not the teams that we thought they would be at the beginning of the year. Now, the only question left to answer is See Police Reports, page 17 which team is better than the other. •
