Any Amount of Money
Why would El Segundo think that any
amount of money could justify changing
The Lakes into a commercial entertainment
center/sports bar/arcade/nightclub that permanently
impacts our parkland; changes its
intent and culture; limits affordable use for El
Segundo residents; loses established, treasured
programs and services for our children and
adults of all ages; and creates additional traffic,
security and liability issues when new, viable
options now exist to upgrade and maintain
The Lakes and it’s programs and amenities
and guarantee income to not only make it
self-sustaining, but to offer substantial annual
revenue to the City while keeping El
Segundo at its heart?

LA Kings to Hand out Safety Kits to
Local Schools
The Los Angeles Kings and the Kings
Care Foundation announced the club will use
the proceeds from last Thursday’s Taste of
the South Bay event to purchase emergency
safety kits to equip South Bay classrooms.
The announcement came as the Kings hosted
the 10th annual Taste of the South Bay event
in in Redondo Beach. The team revealed
that all proceeds from that event will benefit
children in local schools. The hockey club
will work with the police chiefs and school
superintendents in Redondo Beach, Hermosa
Beach, Manhattan Beach and El Segundo to
equip South Bay Classrooms.
“We started this program last year in Redondo
Beach and are thrilled to be able to
bring these tools to the kids of El Segundo,
Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach,” said
Kings President and Hockey Hall of Famer
Luc Robitaille. “Our goal would be to make
sure all of the kids and teachers in Los Angeles
have access to such an important tool.”
The event raised approximately $50,000.
To date, Taste of the South Bay has raised
nearly $400,000 since its inception. More
than 15 South Bay restaurants participated
in the event which featured more than 300
participants. Also in attendance were Kings
players, alumni, broadcasters and staff
members.
