Panda Cheeks
the Kitten Rescue Sanctuary. You can watch
Cheek’s daily antics at FeLV Cats of Kitten
Rescue on our website. (Kitten Rescue is
one of the only sanctuaries in Los Angeles
that takes in FeLV+ cats. Because FeLV+
cats may lead a shorter life, they are more
difficult to adopt. While our mission is to
find every cat a home of their own, we
understand that some cats may spend their
entire lives with us.)
These cats and kittens are available for
adoption through Kitten Rescue, one of the
largest cat rescue groups in Southern California.
All our kitties are spayed/neutered,
microchipped, tested for FeLV and FIV,
dewormed and current on their vaccinations.
Temporarily, adoption events are suspended.
For additional information and to see these
or our other kittens and cats, please check
our website www.kittenrescue.org or email
us at mail@kittenrescue.org.
With our city and state shut down, we
are faced with the delicate balance to protect
our fellow humans from the spread of
COVID-19, while continuing our mission of
saving the most vulnerable victims of the
homeless cat crisis. We know that these are
hard times for everyone. If you can give a
little, it will go a long way. They are still
counting on us during these difficult times.
Your tax-deductible donations for the rescue
and care of our cats and kittens can be made
through our website or by sending a check
payable to Kitten Rescue, 914 Westwood
Blvd. #583, Los Angeles, CA 90024.
Saving one animal won’t change the
world, but the world will surely change for
that animal. •
Purrrfect Companions
Why are there so many kittens and cats out
there to save? An unspayed kitten can begin
to have babies at as young as 5-6 months of
age. With kittens themselves having kittens in
a season that lasts for at least seven months,
the birth rate in just one year is explosive. We
will never run out of kittens; what we fight
so hard to end is the unnecessary suffering
and death of those mamma cats and babies
born on the streets. Please spay and neuter
your pets; assistance is available! Along
with spay and neutering, if just 2% of the
pet-owning households in America fostered
one pet a year, we could stop euthanizing
healthy pets in shelters.
With special stories of survival, here are
this week’s precious cats and kittens waiting
for their fur-ever homes.
Sweet little Elsie had a foxtail lodged in
her eye when we rescued her off the streets.
She was in pain and needed medical care to
remove the invasive weed from her eye. The
vet was not sure if her eye would fully heal,
but after weeks of medication, administered
by her attentive foster mama, she made a full
recovery. Elsie is an adorable tortie ready for
her forever home. She is one of the 1100
animals that we have saved this year.
Our adorable cross-eyed Pantera had her
amputation surgery last week to remove the
cancerous tumor that had invaded her leg.
She is already feeling so much better! She
has a beautiful panther-like look and will be
ready soon to come home with you!
Billy the Kit, one of a litter of three tiny
black kittens found in a garage and rescued
by one of our volunteers. Small kittens like
Billy are at extremely high risk, as they cannot
survive for many hours without the warmth,
nutrition, and protection of their mama cat.
Despite all odds, tiny Billy hung on. Billy
is now growing and thriving, as you see
from his photo. A special hero shout out
to his foster mamma Darla who fought to
save the litter, and who continues to care for
miracle Billy the Kit. Watch for updates on
our website as Billy gets ready for adoption.
Panda, a 5-year-old neutered exotic short
hair. Sadly, his owner had to leave him behind
due to foreign travel issues. Panda is a sweet,
playful and mellow boy who instantly settled
in well at our Sanctuary. And yes, we can’t
take our eyes off him, he is so darn cute!
Cheeks was one of a litter of seven kittens
that we rescued, along with their mama.
Sadly, he is the only survivor of the litter.
His routine testing then showed he is FeLV+,
so currently he lives in our FeLV Suite at
