Romo sent a bullet past Gil in the opening minute of play and then he scored on a breakaway three minutes into the first half. Aiden McDonald made it 3-0 when he scored unassisted. Romo found a rebound and slid the puck in to give his team a 4-0 lead with just over 10 minutes gone in the first half. The Blue Sharks fought off adversity and Lucas Lioacono found an opening and scored past a diving Avalos to make it 4-1. The Silver Bullets responded with three goals by Romo to close out the first half. The first one came on an assist from Rishi Nair. The second one came off an assist from outside by Aiden McDonald and the last one just before halftime came as a result of a shot on goal that caromed back and he shot it back in to make it 7-1. To start the second half, the Blue Sharks struck first. Sean Gil received a pass from Carter Robinson and he blistered his pass to the back of the goal to make it 7-2. The Silver Bullets made sure a comeback was not in order. The Silver Bullets used a number of passes to get Aiden McDonald a good look at the goal. Cole Davidson fed a pass down low and McDonald found an opening for the score. Romo then took a long pass from McDonald and fired it to the back of the net for another score. Carter Robinson celebrated his goal for the Blue Sharks when he took a pass inside from Lioacono on the right side to make 9-3. Each team would go on to score a goal apiece for the final 10-4 score. Tornados Hold off Titans to Win Squirts Division What started out to be a lopsided game ended in a close 8-4 win for the Tornados. This was a fast-paced game with plenty of opportunities for each team to score. The Tornados’ Kyle Oracion, who scored six goals, was also one of his team’s top defenders. Oracion scored in the first 30 seconds of the opening face-off. He added another goal two minutes later with an assist from Karsten Hirasawa. Oracion took another pass from Hirasawa and finished it off to make it 3-0. The Titans finally broke through when Noah Esquivel fed Jaiden Rico inside for a score to make it 3-1 with 13:57 remaining in the first half. The Tornados responded quickly when Jordan Lyles found a loose puck near the goal and pushed it in. Hirasawa picked up his only score of the game on a slap shot that zipped by Titan goalie Zach Cauble for a 5-1 Tornados lead. The Tornados hoist the El Segundo Cup to celebrate their championship. Isaac Kwon’s spectacular play and athleticism gave the Titans their second goal. Kwon passed to Jacob Light, who in turn passed to Mason Smith. Smith found Kwon open for the goal from inside. Noah Esquivel on the attack for the Titans. Once again the Tornados’ Oracion responded with a goal off an assist from Roland Hoffman’s perfectly placed pass for a 6-2 lead. With 31 seconds remaining in the first half, Esquivel took a pass from Kwon and pushed the puck to the back of the net for the Titans to make it 6-3. In the second half, both teams were defensively minded. Kwon scored on a breakaway to bring his Titan team’s deficit to 6-4. Oracion finished off the scoring for the Tornados with a goal assisted by Conrad Hoffman with 12:50 remaining. He also scored off a rebound into an empty net to give the Tornados their championship. It was another successful summer campaign for the El Segundo Inline Hockey Association, thanks in part to league president Jeff Tiddens. Before you know it, the winter season will begin.
