Page 14 June 4, 2015 EL SEGUNDO HERALD Eagles from page 6 challenging one for head coach Keith. “I told the girls at the beginning of the season that we had the potential to make a run,” Cameron said. “But we’ve been hit by so many injuries this year, key players that have been out the whole year. And, our four-hitter is out for the duration of the playoffs. “You can’t sit back and be sorry for yourself. You have to adjust and kids have to step up. We’ve got kids stepping up. Like our third baseman, Carlie (Doucette), she made some great plays under pressure and that’s what it’s all about,” Cameron said. On a cool night in front of a massive standing room only crowd Monique Benjamin, Emma Burner and Nayeli Diaz each contributed two of the Eagles’ 10 hits against North Torrance. Allison Tatnall added a triple in the sixth inning but was left stranded. Gianna Taormino singled, but it was the first of her two walks that gave El Segundo (24-7) the initial lead as her bases-loaded pass in the third inning scored Burner. Another bases-loaded walk, this time to Emily Skulick, ignited the Eagles’ two-out rally in the fifth. Katherine Burner drove in two runs and Benjamin singled in another for a 5-0 lead. A two-run home run by North’s Shonnie Baker was the Saxons’ first hit and chased El Segundo starter Shannon Brooker (18-5) with no outs in the fifth. Brooker, who left with tightness in her hamstring, had six strikeouts and no walks. Benjamin came painting on in relief and pitched three shutout innings for the save.
