EL SEGUNDO HERALD May 28, 2015 Page 3 School Spotlight Carson Doering (9th grade), Shrenil Sharma (9th grade) and Nolan Young (9th grade) won the state championship at the Chevron IED Design Challenge State Finals on May 15th, 2015 held at Folsom Lake College, California. The three-member team was in the group of 16 finalists from five other regions in California. El Segundo School District will honor the team on Tuesday, June 9 board of education meeting at 7:00 pm. All teams are constrained to just a six-hour time frame culminating in a presentation to industry professionals The team presented their design as sketches, 3D CAD modeling files, and in a video presentation. The designs were creative and practical. Participation has increased to the point that Chevron had to turn away schools in a couple of the regions. Chevron was thrilled with the interest and are trying to figure out how to deal with this demand.
