Page 6 May 7, 2015 EL SEGUNDO HERALD Eagles from page 5 explosive homeruns and at times, explosive tempers. Coach Cameron took out his frustrations on one of the umpires and was at odds with Saxon Coach Howard Miller over an obstruction call at the plate. Trailing 4-0, El Segundo broke through in the third with an RBI triple by freshman sensation Monique Benjamin and a sacrifice by Allison Tatnall to make it 4-2. The inning ended when Pelegrin was called out for leaving third base early. When Cameron came out for an explanation the umpire was emphatic that the runner left “late” and said it four times, “She’s late.” It was an explanation that didn’t resonate with Cameron until the umpire changed and he said, “She left early, she’s out”. North continued to add to their lead in the fifth inning and batted around the lineup to make it to make ot 10-2. Allison Tatnall and Julie Roach seemed to take the frustration the Eagles were feeling and unleashed a couple of tape-measure home runs to bring the Eagles’ deficit to 10-5. The Eagles reached the finals for the third consecutive year and Coach Cameron went with Benjamin. All the freshman did was limit the Bears to just three hits and strike out six. Coupled with her two other wins in the tournament, including a no-hitter against Bishop Montgomery, and driving in the eventual winning run in the finals, she was named the tournament Most Valuable Player. In the third inning Benjamin had an RBI double that saw POLA’s Savannah Ramirez and Vanessa Munoz collide in the outfield. The collision allowed Emily Skulick to score from first base while Benjamin hustled over to third. In the sixth inning Tatnall walked and stole second base. Julie Roach delivered an RBI single to score Tatnall. Emma Burner followed with an RBI single. POLA catcher Anessa Quiroz attempted to throw Burner out at second base on the play but the throw skipped into center field and Burner rounded the bases and scored easily.
