In honor of the fifth anniversary of the Gala, The Jewelry Source will donate a 2.18-carat sapphire stone valued at $2,500 and a $1,500 credit towards piece customization. “A program of top-flight cuisine from nearly two dozen local restaurants, beer and wine tastings, live and silent auctions, and a live DJ performance highlight this year’s fifth annual El Segundo Education Foundation (Ed!) Gala.” The winner will work with store owner Brenda Newman to choose a custom setting, the metal, and a design. The largest of Ed!’s fundraisers, the Gala will draw over 700 local business leaders, community members and parents. Due to heavy demand, organizers encourage attendees to purchase tickets and tables as soon as possible. “Ticket sales are going through the roof compared to this time last year,” said Galindo, who added that the event will again have tenting rain or shine. Initial advance weather forecasts call for sunny skies. The slate of restaurants on hand this year will handyman include Beach Mex, Britt’s BBQ, Cake Bakeshop, Cold Stone Creamery, Cozymels, Deluca BILL’S Trattoria, El Segundo Beach Café and Catering Company, Good Stuff, Grimaldi’s, Jackson’s, Kreation Organic, Lisa’s Bon Appetit, McCormick & Schmick’s, Nothing for the 2015/16 school year are Biomedical Science, Counseling, Drama, Music/Vocals and Robotics at El Segundo High; CMAST/ Math, Counseling, Instruments and Strings, International Baccalaureate, and Robotics at El Segundo Middle School; and Computer Science, Elementary Art, Literacy, Physical Education, and STEM at Richmond Street and Center Street schools. Last year’s event exceeded expectations by yielding more than $210,000 net. “This year, we’ve set our goals even higher as the Foundation has picked up the additional responsibility of funding the libraries at all four school sites as well as Computer Science at the Richmond and Center campuses,” said Andi Galindo, Ed! Communications and Operations Manager. Sponsorships from businesses and community members underwrite the costs of the Gala to allow 100% of the $125 ticket price ($150 at the door) to go towards El Segundo public schools. General admission includes the tastings at the various food and beverage stations as well as the entertainment. “This year, we are proud to have El Segundo Brewing Company as our official beer sponsor of the event,” Galindo said. “They have been a long-time supporter of the Foundation and we are excited to showcase tastings of three of their specialty beers.” Once again, Chevron and Continental Development Corporation will spearhead the Triple Your Dollars for Scholars campaign. The two companies will match all donations made that evening (up to $10,000) to triple the impact of individual contributions.
