Once thought of as an Ocean League contender the Eagles fell on hard times most likely related to poor shooting and shoddy defense. The 47-35 loss to Lawndale was particularly heartbreaking because of the way they lost. Not only did they give up too many second chance shots but on offense they shot a meager 21% from the field. Still the Eagles had a slight one point advantage going into the fourth quarter before the Cardinals ran away with it towards the end. Against Santa Monica poor field goal shot selection led to another dismal night and the Eagles fell 50-38. Free throws didn’t drop either which could have turned things the other way. Still Paige Endo scored 18 points and surpassed scoring 400 points on the year. So the Eagles will enter the CIF-SS 4AA Division playoffs in good shape with a positive draw in their favor. The Eagles 15-11 on the year play host Nipomo, the third place team from the Los Padres League, tonight at 7pm. A win would propel them into the second round against the winner of the Covina/Fillmore game on Saturday at 7pm.
