William “Bill” Campilii
Nov. 19, 1919 – Feb. 4, 2019
A resident of El Segundo since
1955, Bill Campilii passed away
peacefully at the age of 99. He
was always young at heart and
had a beautiful smile. Quiet
and a hard worker, Bill owned
Campilii’s Pizza on Grand Ave
from 1970-1984 where he served
the best lasagna, spaghetti ,and
his famous meat ball sandwiches.
Prior to opening his restaurant,
Bill worked at Servo Mechanisms
for 17 years.
Bill and wife, Edith moved from Newburgh
New York in 1953 and eventually settled
on Maryland St with their family and has
resided in the same home ever since. Bill
grew up in Marlborough, NY and had 2
brothers, Rocco and Rudy, and a sister,
Mary. Born of Italian descent, he was a first
generation and served in the Army Air Corp
in the South Pacific during WWII. After
retiring from the restaurant, Bill and Edith
loved travelling in their motor home to
camping spots for fishing, back east to
visit relatives, or to their favorite, Laughlin
NV. where they made many friends with
snow-birds, all parking their
campers along the river. These
were annual trips for years
with friends from all over the
country and they loved playing
bingo and Keno. Bill was a
regular at the El Segundo Senior
Center on Fridays for the bingo
games.
Bill was preceded in death
by his wife Edith and eldest
daughter Donna Brickman, where
they were anxiously awaiting his
arrival in heaven. Bill is survived by his
daughters, Sue (Howard) Wood of Redondo
Beach and Marie (Art) Ledesma of Carson,
and his son-in-law, Jerry Brickman of Laguna
Woods. Also, grandchildren, Dina Medeiros,
