Looking at the most significant challenges since joining the City, Mallory quickly quipped that the biggest issue for him is traffic on the 405 Freeway (and his daily commute). “In all seriousness, it has been building the foundation of a new department,” he said. “This requires revision of policies, establishing procedures and standards while continuing daily operations. The most rewarding aspect of all this is the same as the challenge – to have the opportunity to positively impact the City through process improvement and technology.” Mallory added that those positive impacts will hopefully be noticeable to the community at large. “It’s about moving the City to the next level of innovation,” he said. “For example, our new website truly will be a one-stop shop for all services, communication and citizen interaction.
