Still, school is where the majority of her focus is aimed. “When South High senior Tiffany Hattori began balloon twisting, she never envisioned the hobby turning her into a sought-out local entertainer.” She is a Girl Scout, Club Rep of the Math Club and Co-President of the Science Club, Student League Board Member, active tutor of the California Scholarship Federation, part of the robotics team and plays saxophone for the marching band, among many other activities. Tiffany very much enjoys volunteering in her community, including assisting elementary school-aged children with their music program, helping at Torrance Memorial Hospital, assisting with Vacation Bible School every summer since sixth grade, and being an active board member on the City of Torrance Attic Youth Council. This past summer, she was selected for the Exxon Mobil Youth Development Program. Over the years, Tiffany’s brother became very adept with the yo-yo and started teaching in the community. One day, a family friend taught Tiffany balloon twisting and she took off with it. Now she gets called to all these events to help charities, to help fundraise and to work with kids. With graduation coming up in June, Tiffany looks to enjoy the rest of her high school career but continues to get joy out of her appearances at various events for schools, libraries and convalescent homes. “I think that I do want to hang out with my friends a little bit more before going off to college. Sometimes I am so busy that I don’t have time to be with them outside of band or school,” Tiffany said. “I enjoy seeing people smile when I give them the balloons.
