Community Briefs Over 20 Years Serving Hospitalized Children A message from Sheri Schrier, founder of Happy Hats for Kids, Torrance “In 1991, after the losses of my younger brother, father, mother and grandmother to cancer, I wanted to help hospitalized children with cancer. I watched helplessly as the physical pain of the disease and the emotional trauma of hair loss devastated my loved ones. As a hat designer and manufacturer by profession, I set out on a mission to design whimsical hats that would uplift the spirits and bring back smiles to the faces of these precious children suffering with this devastating illness. These unique creations would not be glamorous, but would have a personality of their own to simply divert the young patient’s attention away from anxiety and fear to having a little fun during their hospital stay and beyond. Not only did these whimsical hats bring smiles to the children, but to their family’s faces as well. All of our programs serve children of all ages, ethnic backgrounds and economic levels and are free of charge to children in 46 hospitals, four ERs and Providence TrinityKids Care Hospice. Our programs serve the Greater Los Angeles and Orange County areas, as well as throughout California and the Nation. Happy Hats for Kids became a nonprofit organization in 1992.” • Burkley & Brandlin LLP A T T O R N E Y S A T L AW Living Trusts/Wills, Probate, Employment Law, Personal Injury Trust and Estates Litigation, Business Litigation, Civil Litigation 310-540-6000 *AV Rated (Highest) Martindale - Hubbell / **Certified Specialist Estate Planning, Trust & Probate Law, State Bar of California, Board of Legal Specialization A section of 190th Street has improved immensely because of the Mattucci Project, a brainchild of Mattucci Real Estate’s Aurelio Mattucci, who found a way to personally get involved to clean and improve curb appeal in the community.
