After a promising beginning to the game in which Mique Juarez took a 23-yard run into the end zone for the first score of the game, the Saxons began to melt down against Simi Valley last Friday night at Simi Valley. The Pioneers would score the next three scores of the game to quickly go up on North High 21-6. Juarez attempted to put his team on his back about halfway through the second quarter as he took the ball in for another rushing touchdown, making the score 21-12. Simi Valley was too much for Juarez and North though. They led 28-12 going into the half before going up by as much as 45-12 midway through the fourth quarter. North got on the board again in garbage time, but ultimately took the 45-19 loss. The Saxons’ (7-4, 4-1) season was successful to say the least, beginning and ending the year with three-game winning streaks before getting eliminated in the playoffs by the Pioneers (7-4, 3-0). Ultimately the bright lights and the big stage proved to be too much for head coach Todd Croce’s team as they were sent home from the tournament earlier than expected. Anticipate another appearance from coach Croce and company in next year’s tournament as they will look forward to bettering the final outcome.
