Page 8 October 27, 2016 TORRANCE TRIBUNE School Board from front page states the staff report. “Young women need to be equipped for the economy of the future by attending college,  building skills, and gaining experience that can be applied to 21st century careers.” LA Fund, an independent nonprofit, works in collaboration with school districts’ leadership, donors, and other stakeholders dedicated to the field of education. Through privatepublic partnerships, LA Fund works toward spurring positive and sustainable change in order to have a direct impact on education. By working directly with teachers and district leaders, LA Fund has earned a strong reputation for creating “meaningful systemic change” with LAUSD [Los Angeles Unified School District]. “From ensuring that hundreds of thousands of students have access to a healthy breakfast everyday, to providing life changing professional experiences for deserving students at leading companies, to empowering young women to solve the most urgent challenges in their communities, change is happening,” states the LA Fund website [https://www.lafund. org/what-we-do]. “The challenge will draw attention to the problems that girls face everyday, allow teams to pilot interventions, and ultimately facilitate meaningful change in Los Angeles County,” states the board’s staff report. “The team [J.H. Hull] will attend the project EXPO in May for final presentations, awards, scholarships and other prizes.” • Police Reports from page 3 BLOCK HAWTHORNE BLVD Suspect(s) takes unattended property from table; cell phone Theft 10/12/2016 7:30:00 PM 21300 BLOCK HAWTHORNE BLVD Suspect(s) takes property off of vehicle; license plate Auto Theft-All 10/12/2016 4:30:00 PM 21800 BLOCK HAWTHORNE BLVD Stolen vehicle: ‘07 Nissan Sentra Burglary-Residential 10/12/2016 4:15:00 PM 22900 BLOCK CABRILLO AVE Suspect(s) enters unlocked door and takes property; wallet, keys Auto Theft-All 10/12/2016 4:00:00 PM 23700 BLOCK WESTERN AVE Stolen vehicle: ‘06 Ford Ranger Theft 10/12/2016 3:00:00 PM 23100 BLOCK HAWTHORNE BLVD Suspect(s) forces open storage container and takes property; propane tanks Robbery-Weapon 10/12/2016 2:30:00 PM 23800 BLOCK HAWTHORNE BLVD Suspect enters open business and demands property at gunpoint; cash Theft 10/12/2016 11:24:00 AM 2200 BLOCK CARSON ST Suspect(s) defeats lock and takes property from locker; cell phone Robbery-StrongArm 10/12/2016 9:56:33 AM 2600 BLOCK 180TH PL Suspect forcibly takes victim’s property from her possession, causing her to fall to the ground/ purse Visit us online: www.heraldpublications.com from different schools helped hundreds of people to register to vote, and hundreds others to receive screenings for blood pressure and HIV. Students also led 138 workshops for fellow students on issues such as sexual harassment, healthy body image, and careers for women in technology. In the end, those projects engaged, activated, or served almost 20,000 of peers and community members throughout the county. “J H Hull’s team will meet after school and on Saturdays supervised by science teacher, Kristy Mar, who will serve as Site Coordinator,” states the board’s staff report. “Students will attend an orientation day at USC, where each team will learn and practice how to design and create a digital footprint for this project that includes building a website, running a social media campaign, and recording engaging video.” Money to cover expenses will be paid through a grant from the LA Promise Fund, as well as via community donations. The site coordinator is scheduled to receive a $1,500 stipend, which will be paid directly by LA Promise Fund, freeing the district from any financial obligations. The Los Angeles Fund for Public Education has been partnering with schools across the county in order to invest in “innovative, results-oriented programs” tailored to ensuring that all students have a chance to succeed. “In Los Angeles County, women represent only 24 percent of the STEM workforce,” Auto Theft-All 10/12/2016 6:21 AM 18300 BLOCK FAYSMITH AVE Stolen vehicle: ‘17 Kawasaki ATV Theft 10/12/2016 3:36:58 AM 19000 BLOCK HAWTHORNE BLVD Suspect(s) takes unattended property from table/ laptop Battery-Weapon/Agg 10/11/2016 10:11 PM MADRID AVE & SONOMA ST Suspect repeatedly tazes victim Auto Theft-All 10/11/2016 8:00:00 PM 2700 BLOCK ORANGE AVE Stolen vehicle: ‘96 Lexus LS400 Burglary-Commercial 10/11/2016 7:30:00 PM 3400 BLOCK 229TH PL Suspect(s) attempts to pry open door; no entry, no loss Burglary-Commercial 10/11/2016 5:00:00 PM 1600 BLOCK GRAMERCY AVE Suspect(s) forces open maintenance room door and takes property; drill motor Burglary-Residential 10/11/2016 8:20:00 AM 3100 BLOCK EL DORADO ST Suspect(s) kicks in door for entry, ransacks and takes property; laptops, cell phone, tablet, jewelry Burglary-Auto 10/11/2016 3:03 AM 16700 BLOCK FAYSMITH AVE Suspect(s) smashes window for entry and takes property; backpack Burglary-Auto 10/10/2016 9:00:00 PM 3400 BLOCK 185TH ST Suspect(s) pries window for entry, ransacks and takes property; cash, charger • C e r t i f i e d a n d L i c e n s e d P r o f e s s i o n a l s handyman Bob Boice Quality Work Since 1966 Home Repairs Carpentry/Painting - Ceramic Tile/Masonry Repairs - Most Other Repairs and Improvements - Small Jobs O.K.! - Please no plumbing calls. 310-316-3435 Lic#817498 B.H.I.C.
