West (6- 2, 3-0) will look to keep making a strong run toward the end of the regular season as they travel to Leuzinger (6-2, 3-0) to take on their divisional rivals in what has now become a battle for the first place spot in the Pioneer League. North High The North High Saxons finally found a way to throw their two-game losing streak aside and get their first win of league play last Friday night with a 45-0 blowout on the road at Centennial. Teams have found their ways to run all over the Pioneer League’s last place team this season. The Saxons did the same under the Friday night lights. The game was over early as starting quarterback Glenn Searcy had one of his best performances of the season for the Saxons. Losses at home against West High and on the road and against Leuzinger at home made-up the first two losses of league play for North and head coach Todd Croce, who fell victim to a tough schedule to begin league play this year. With the two top teams in the Pioneer League now out of the way, the Saxons can finally get back to their winning ways, as they have now begun to do after their victory versus Centennial. Searcy, Croce and the rest of the Saxons (4-4, 1-2) will look to start a winning streak as the season now begins to come to a close. A home matchup with the Torrance Tartars waits this Friday Carl Richardson (South Torrance No. 3) is tackled by Ryan Shoda (West Torrance No. 55) and Austin Turner (West Torrance No. 53) during the opening drive of the cross town rivalry. West’s Dutch Silverlake interception set up West at the 2-yard line in the first quarter of play, setting up West’s second touchdown of the quarter. EJ Hatter (West Torrance No. 5) scored three of West’s touchdowns against crosstown rival South Torrance. night before the season ends for North on the road at South. Torrance High The Torrance Tartars have won when it has counted this season, taking it to the last place Centennial Apaches in the first game of the league play by a final score of 28-6. Aside from that win, however, things have been tough sledding for head coach Rock Hollis and his young team. A loss to South High in a rivalry game quickly followed before Torrance welcomed the Leuzinger Olympians to town. While the Tartars have been struggling to get wins on the board this season, Leuzinger has been battling it out with West High for place all season long. That fact certainly showed in the final box score of the game. A 39-3 shellacking gave Leuzinger another win and Torrance another loss as the Tartars were only able to manage one field goal on offense all game long. The offense hasn’t been much to write home about for Torrance this season, but the team will look to get things back on track this week as they travel to North High to take on the Saxons. The Tartars (1-7, 1-2), who are in a three-way tie for third place in the Pioneer League (North, South,) will be looking to distance themselves from the bottom of the standings as the regular season quickly comes to a close. A victory over the Saxons would be just what the doctor ordered this week for Hollis and his Tartars.. asixlion@earthlink.neT • Patrick Patterson (South Torrance No. 11) is tackled by Shige Kato (West Torrance No. 18). South only gained 25 yards on 28 carries against a strong West Torrance defense. The interception by West’s Kyle Reinsch (West Torrance No. 88) set up West at the 2-yard line for West’s first score of the game.
