Breaking into the league with a big afro atop his head, Bryant would slam the ball through the hoop with his tongue swaying outside of his mouth like Michael Jordan. He won the slam dunk title, a contest that LeBron James still refuses to participate in. He led the league in scoring, won championships, made unbelievable shots with what looked like eight arms in his face. Bryant scored 81 points in a game and has had five other games of 60 points or more, including his last game ever against the Utah Jazz. Some would say Duncan was boring. Bryant, though, left a footprint on the league and had a global impact that will forever tie him to the game of basketball. When it comes down to it, there really is no pure and concrete way to measure who the better player was. You can manipulate the numerical statistics to say whatever you want and give either player the upper hand. At the end of the day, however, Duncan and Kobe both led their teams to championships and played two distinctively different positions and styles of game. The Spurs had more franchise stability throughout Duncan’s career, while Kobe dealt with the loss of Jerry West, Phil Jackson coming and going as he pleased, and a different head coach every other year. Duncan, meanwhile, had Popovich. Choosing the better player between the two is completely based on opinion and conjecture only. When it comes down to it, there will never be another Kobe Bryant who prolonged the Jordan era by affecting the world with his talent and buzz that he created. His flash, drive, and determination to be the best will never again be equaled. He was a one of a kind player. Tim Duncan, with his prolonged success and ability to keep his team on top of the league for so long, may just go down in history as one of the Top10 greatest players to ever play the game. Bryant could be left out of that mix. This offseason, both Duncan and Bryant will disappear into retirement, one more quietly than the other. The two superstars have had careers that remain quite parallel to one another. The only thing that we do absolutely know for sure is that the NBA is worse off for losing them both. • Suspect(s) smashes window for entry and takes property/purse Vandalism 7/4/2016 4:00:00 PM 18800 BLOCK CRENSHAW BLVD Suspect(s) smashes glass door/no entry, no loss Burglary-Auto 7/4/2016 12:00:00 PM 600 BLOCK PALOS VERDES BLVD Suspect(s) enters unlocked vehicle and takes property/handgun Burglary-Auto 7/4/2016 11:30:16 AM 900 BLOCK COTA AVE Suspect(s) enters unlocked vehicle, ransacks/ no loss Burglary-Commercial 7/3/2016 8:00:00 PM 23200 BLOCK ARLINGTON AVE Suspect(s) uses sticky device to fish from mail slot and takes property/checks, money orders Theft 7/3/2016 3:00:00 PM 2300 BLOCK CARSON ST Suspect(s) uses fishing device to remove property placed in drop slot/ checks, Money orders Theft 7/3/2016 1:56:00 PM 3500 BLOCK CARSON ST Suspect(s) takes property forgotten by victim, just purchased clothes Auto Theft-All 7/3/2016 9:38 AM 2300 BLOCK MARICOPA PL Stolen vehicle: ‘92 Honda Accord Auto Theft-All 7/3/2016 8:00:00 AM 21300 BLOCK WESTERN AVE Stolen vehicle: ‘15 Nissan Sentra •
