On arrival, officers discovered a single vehicle traffic collision involving a yellow Dodge Charger which had collided into a tree. Based on witness statements, the initial investigation indicates the Dodge was travelling southbound on Van Ness Avenue through Del Amo Boulevard at a high rate of speed when it lost control for an unknown reason and collided with a tree at Van Ness Way. The driver of the Dodge, a 20-year-old male, and his 19-year-old male passenger, both residents of Long Beach, were treated by Torrance Fire Department personnel, but succumbed to their injuries at the scene. A second passenger, an 18-year-old male resident of Long Beach, was treated by Torrance Fire Department personnel at the scene and transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. All three occupants of the Dodge were positively identified by investigators, but their names are being withheld pending notification to a next of kin. Van Ness Avenue was closed in both directions between Del Amo Boulevard and Harpers Way for approximately five and one half hours during the collision investigation. This collision is being investigated by the Torrance Police Department’s Traffic Division under the command of Captain Martin Vukotic, Commander of the Special Operations Bureau. Anyone with information regarding this collision is encouraged to contact the Torrance Police Department’s Traffic Division at (310) 618-5557. – Content: Torrance Police Department Community Briefs Historical Society Rocks Around the Block in Celebration of All-America City Award On Thursday, July 20, from 5-8 p.m., the Torrance Historical Society is hosting the 13th annual 1950s-style family summer event in celebration of Torrance’s All-America City Award--one of America’s original and most prestigious community recognition awards.
