On arrival, officers discovered that a green, 2009 Kawasaki motorcycle had collided into the rear of silver, 2011 Chrysler sedan in the eastbound lanes of 190th Street. Based on witness statements, the initial investigation indicates the Kawasaki motorcycle was travelling eastbound on 190th Street at a high rate of speed, splitting between other eastbound vehicles when it collided into the rear of the Chrysler sedan. A third vehicle, a black 2010 Toyota Tundra pickup truck, received minor damage from flying debris. The rider of the Kawasaki, a 25-year-old male resident of South Dakota, was treated by Torrance Fire Department personnel at the scene and transported to a local hospital where he underwent surgery for his injuries and is listed in critical condition. The rider of the Kawasaki has been identified, but his name is being withheld pending family notification. The driver of the Chrysler, a 31-year-old female resident of Long Beach, and her passenger were not injured in the collision. Eastbound 190th Street was closed between Yukon Avenue and Crenshaw Boulevard for approximately four and a half hours during the collision investigation. This collision is being investigated by the Torrance Police Department’s Traffic Division under the command of Captain Martin Vukotic, Commander of the Special Operations Bureau. Anyone with information regarding this collision is encouraged to contact the Torrance Police Department’s Traffic Division at (310) 618-5557. – Content: Torrance PD C e r t i f i e d a n d L i c e n s e d P r o f e s s i o n a l s painting RICH’S PAINTING Specializing in exterior Quality interior work Reliable • Reasonable Rates 310-640-9465 plumbing 24 Hour Service Since 1990 • Lic # 770059 • C-42 C-36 C-34 C20 A Free Estimates FULL SERVICE PLUMBING Sewer Video Inspection Rooter Service • Copper Repipes 310-543-2001 painting PAINTERS PLUS INTERIOR • EXTERIOR PLUS IMPROVEMENTS • REPAIRS FREE ESTIMATES LOWEST PRICES • GUARANTEED QUALITY 5 YEAR FREE MAINTENANCE SERVING THE BEACH CITIES FOR OVER 20 YEARS CALL DON 310-798-0450 LIC # 726089 concrete handyman BILL’S HOME & APARTMENT MAINTENANCE CONTRACTOR QUALITY at Handyman Prices. And why not? Families and friends gather to celebrate our country’s freedom with food, parades, parties, picnics and fireworks. However, there can be a very dark side to this great holiday. For many, the celebration includes alcohol, and the holiday can quickly go from festive to fatal when people choose to drive after drinking. To crack down on drunk driving, the Torrance Police Department will be out in full force, aggressively targeting those who put lives in danger. If you’re caught driving drunk or drug-impaired, you will be arrested. Aside from putting your life and the lives of others at risk, driving impaired can also lead to serious consequences. A DUI arrest can mean time in jail, loss of your license, and steep financial expenses; the average DUI costs about $10,000. Fireworks Selling or possessing fireworks is illegal in the City of Torrance. Any person caught with any type of firework or explosive device is subject to a minimum fine of $100.00. As in previous years, the Torrance Police and Fire Departments will be conducting special enforcement operations with the sole purpose of identifying, locating, and citing all those who are in violation of any firework ordinance.
