I appreciate all the work they put in.” Finally, the Council honored the South High School girls soccer team, which took the CIF Southern Section Division 4 Championship in a 1-0 overtime victory against Sierra High. “This doesn’t happen without the support of the parents. These parents have made many sacrifices to let these children participate in these sports and they have just excelled.” The team was led by Coach Liz Kitsios. As a former soccer coach himself, Mayor Frank Scotto watched the team progress and was impressed with their performance. ”I’m very impressed with what they’ve done this year,” said Scotto, “They’ve done an excellent job.” Scotto added that he and the Council weren’t only proud of these students’ hard work in their sports, but also of the parents and coaches who supported them and helped make their victories possible. “As a city, we are very proud of our students--not only academically, but what they do athletically,” said Scotto. “This doesn’t happen without the support of the parents. These parents have made many sacrifices to let these children participate in these sports and they have just excelled. The City of Torrance is just so pleased to have so many different organizations and so many different schools doing so well. This doesn’t just happen by chance. The fact is, you have to have coaches that are dedicated to give up their time to do this. Now, a lot of people feel they get paid a lot of money to do this. Well, they don;t. They do this out of the goodness of their heart. Coaches really love what they do for these athletes.” E-mail: dylantlittle@gmail.com • See Police Reports, page 9
