Torrance Memorial has more than 10 years of experience with robotic-assisted surgeries, and the daVinci System is used to care for a number of patients in the South Bay community. The students will have an opportunity to interact with a daVinci System through a timed simulated robotic surgery contest. They will also get to hear from surgeon James Camel, M.D. about the robotics program at Torrance Memorial Medical Center, and will receive awards at the end of the program. • Since then local groups like the YMCA, the Riviera Club and the Rotary Club have joined in spreading the word about Soles4Souls. During a guest speaker appearance at the local Rotary Club, Dr. Blischke was invited to a 5K run in Griffith Park where other Rotary Club members were encouraged to donate old pairs of shoes. That call to arms resulted in the collection of 295 pairs of shoes in one day. “These shoes help kids go to school--they help the adults go to work, they help the women who have to walk miles to pick up water. What I am trying to do is get some more of the TUSD schools involved,” said Dr. Blischke.
