Police Briefs
Traffic Collision
at Hawthorne and Carson
On Feb. 16 at approximately 10:25 p.m.,
officers from the Torrance Police Department
responded to a major traffic collision at the
intersection of Hawthorne Boulevard and
Carson Street.
On arrival, officers discovered that a maroon
BMW driven by a 50-year-old female, traveling
northbound on Hawthorne, had collided
with a 23-year-old male pedestrian, north of
Carson Street. It was determined that the
pedestrian was crossing Hawthorne Boulevard
outside the marked crosswalk. The sole occupant
of the BMW was treated for minor
injuries and transported to a local hospital
and listed in stable condition. The pedestrian
sustained major injuries, was treated by Torrance
Fire Department personnel at the scene
and transported to a local hospital where he
is listed in critical condition.
The northbound lanes of Hawthorne Boulevard
between Carson Street and Del Amo
Circle Drive were closed for approximately
four hours during the investigation.
This collision is being investigated by the
Torrance Police Department’s Traffic Division
under the command of Captain Martin Vukotic,
Commander of the Special Operations
Bureau. Anyone with information regarding
this collision is encouraged to contact the
Torrance Police Department’s Traffic Division
at (310) 618-5557.

Enforcement Results
On Thursday, Feb. 15, an HVE operation
was conducted at Pacific Coast Highway
and Hawthorne Boulevard between 7 and 10
a.m. The majority of the violations centered
around improper cellphone usage, failure to
obey signs, and unsafe speed.
A second HVE operation was conducted
the same day at the intersections of Crenshaw
Boulevard and Artesia Boulevard, as well as
Redondo Beach Boulevard and Prairie Avenue
between 3:30 5:30 p.m. The majority of the
violations centered around improper cellphone
usage and stoplight violations.
Five pedestrians were cited for jaywalking,
and an additional driver was cited for
travelling on the wrong side of the road. An
unlicensed 17-year-old, who was clocked at
90 mph on a motorcycle, was also cited.
The Torrance Police Department will
continue to partner with our community to
address traffic safety concerns throughout the
city. Traffic sign boards reminding drivers to
obey traffic laws will be used at intersections
while motor officers devote the majority of
their time to educating the community.
