Egan, who was principal at West High prior to his current position with the district, hopes that current efforts combined with new input by parent committees will help students move forward academically. “Schools offer intervention type classes which amounts to an additional teacher or maybe working with children outside of the school day,” Egan said. “At the elementary school the focus is building the reading fluency for kids who maybe aren’t reading at grade level or progressing as quickly as their classmates. We are inventing new ways to provide support and it is time to bring in the families and ask parents how things are going and if they are accessing these resources. Is it enough?
