Hughes Way, El Segundo, CA 90245 Kiwanis Club Installation We congratulate Greg McClain upon his installation as the incoming president of the Hawthorne Kiwanis Club. He will be installed into his new office this Friday. Greg is head of the Planning Department for the City of Hawthorne. The Kiwanis Club has been one of the most active civic service clubs in the City of Good Neighbors for over 70 years. Historical Society Meeting We had a good turn out for our historical society meeting held this past Monday night. Maybe it was the free food or maybe the interesting speaker that drew an overflow crowd to the Hawthorne Museum. Mr. Kenny Jue shared his lifetime of memories with us. He stated that Tennessee Williams also once lived in Hawthorne. We now can add his name to our list of celebrity Hawthorne residents. Our next meeting will be Monday night, October 24 at 6:30 p.m. The speaker and discussion will be related to “Baseball in Hawthorne”. It should be interesting to hear just how many famous players have come out of our area. Where Do I Stand? When asked whom I was voting for in presidential elections in the past, I have responded by saying that I support candidates who share my same values and beliefs. I’m a conservative. I believe less government is better. I believe that the government should not be writing new laws through the judicial system. I believe abortion is wrong. I believe marriage is a sacred union between a man and a woman. I base my views firmly on the bible. I may not be politically correct. I may not win if I ran for higher office especially here in liberal CA. In America we have the freedom to stand on our beliefs. I perform my duties as a duly elected city clerk and carry out the laws of California and Hawthorne, but my personal views may not always agree with those handed down from our state. As long as they don’t keep me from having a cold one, I’m good. • Community Briefs Art Day in Inglewood The City of Inglewood is celebrating Art Day on Saturday, October 10, 2015, with presentations and commemorations from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Inglewood Civic Center, 101 West Manchester, Inglewood, California.
