Page 8 September 22, 2016 Serena Huey Frankie is living large in North Hollywood and has made himself right at home! Wowser Schnauzers Happy Tails stairs, I am great with other dogs and I love to play, play, play. I’m only 15 pounds, have the sweetest face ever and a natural tail that I hold up high. I’m ready for adoption and I’ll bet once you see me you’ll just have to have me for your own. If you are interested in Serena, please email info@msfr.org for more information. I think they named me Ditto because my story is eerily similar to Serena’s. I’m a purebred, male Miniature Schnauzer, pup whose birthday is sometime in February. Coincidentally, I too was trying to hide from the noise of fireworks and landed in an inland empire shelter after being hit by a car. The MSFR folks rescued me right after July 4, and the same Veterinarian that saw my pal Serena examined me. It was kind of spooky that we both had the same severe nerve damage, in the same front, left leg. We arrived at our respective shelters which are on opposite sides of town on the same date. Like Serena, six weeks of acupuncture and laser treatments didn’t help and I had to have my leg amputated. I had the procedure done on Sept. 2, and I should be ready for adoption by the end of September. I would really love to find a home with a doggie pal because I really don’t like being alone. Even though I’m missing a leg, I’m still pretty playful and I get along great with other dogs. I’m almost full-grown and I only weigh 15 pounds so I won’t be a big guy but I do have a big heart! If you’re interested in Ditto, please Ditto Slater We are looking for volunteers to help with our pet adoption fairs which are held every Saturday at the Petco located at 537 N. Pacific Coast Highway Redondo Beach 90277, from noon to 3:30 p.m. If you are interested in volunteering and can commit to at least one Saturday a month, please contact us at info@msfr.org. You can also visit all of our Miniature Schnauzers & Friends rescues at the adoption fair or check out our website, www.msfr.org. If you have any questions about a particular dog’s availability you can email us at info@msfr.org. Schnauzers! Bet you can’t adopt just one! While Serena means tranquil, calm and peaceful my short life has been anything but. The fireworks on the 4th of July sent this 1-year old, purebred, female Miniature Schnauzer into a panic-stricken frenzy looking for a safe space. Unfortunately, I ended up in a L.A. County shelter after being hit by a car and sustaining severe nerve damage to my front, left leg. I was rescued right after the 4th of July and taken to the Veterinarian for assessment but the prognosis wasn’t very encouraging. I spent six weeks receiving acupuncture and laser treatments, but there was no improvement so amputation was recommended. I have to tell you I was more than a little apprehensive. I had the surgery done on Aug. 24, but to my surprise losing a leg didn’t do much to dampen my mobility, my energy or my spirit. I can navigate the email info@msfr.org for more information. Hi there, I’m Huey and if I have to say so myself, I’m a real gem. I’m a 4-year-old male Miniature Schnauzer mix but I’m not sure what I’m mixed with. I was rescued from an L.A. area shelter after I was found wandering the streets. They said I was a stray (don’t know what breed that is) but I do know that I was a matted, smelly mess. Is it any wonder that there was no interest in adopting me? The MSFR folks saw me when they were rescuing another dog and kept their eyes on me. They knew I was a diamond in the rough and when I wasn’t adopted by the following week they just scooped me up. Once groomed, I cleaned up VERY nicely and discovered that without all of the hair, I only weigh 18 pounds! I’m a real personable guy with a sweet temperament and would be an awesome addition to your family. If you are interested in Huey, please email info@ msfr.org for more information. Hello! My name is Slater and I’m a very cute, 2-year-old, male “Schnoodle” (Schnauzer/Poodle mix). I was rescued from an L.A. County shelter where I was called a stray. Shelters can be pretty intimidating to a little youngster like me so it’s no surprise that when I was first rescued I was terribly frightened and very skittish. Actually, I was a bit of a basket case. I had some very special one/one training and am happy to say that I’ve gotten over some of my fear issues. I’m continuing on that path and am doing much better with strangers. That said, I think I would do best in a home without small children and with someone that has a little dog experience because I could really benefit from a confident owner. My friends all think I’m a really great guy because I’m very loyal, funny and 16 pounds of affection. I get along great with other dogs, I absolutely LOVE to go for walks and did I mention I’m cute as a button? If you are interested in Slater, please email info@msfr.org for more information. • Another great Happy Tails story to share. Congratulations to Frankie and his new family. Frankie is our 6-year-old blind Miniature Schnauzer who was rescued back in February. His new mom had been tracking him via our website for months but was waiting to relocate before making an introduction. They had adopted their previous Schnauzer when he was eight and unfortunately lost him seven years later. When they lost him last November, before moving to the L.A. area, they knew it would have to be someone very special to fill their hearts. The stars aligned – they found a home and Frankie was still available. They finally met Frankie in August at our pet adoptions and it was love at first sight. We also discovered that their previous dog had lost his vision during the last couple years of his life so they have experience with blind dogs – so it doesn’t get much better does it? Frankie is living large in North Hollywood and has made himself right at home. We wish all of them much happiness. • Saving one animal won’t change the world, but the world will surely change for that animal.
