The record-breaking attempt began July 1 in Los Angeles, with a goal of finishing in less than 69 days in New York City, just ahead of the first day of the new school year. The mayor adjourned the meeting in honor of several Lawndale residents who recently passed away. The meeting ended in honor of Emilia Brenes, mother of city employee Maria Guerra; Jim Bapties, longtime resident; Lorne Ahrens, former LASD Lennox Station dispatcher who was among the officers killed in the Dallas incident; and Thomas Landacre.
