The grants represent funding for local Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM)-related education programs. Century Blvd. Road Closures Walsh-Shea Corridor Constructors (WSCC) will be installing framing for a new bridge over Century Bl between Aviation Bl and Bellanca Av. This will require nightly full closures of westbound and then eastbound traffic on Century Bl.  This work is scheduled to take two weeks and the closures will be implemented one direction at a time.  The construction schedule has been revised and nightly closures of Century Bl are scheduled to begin Monday  July  13th, 2015. The westbound closure will begin the week of July 13th followed by the eastbound closure the next week. Westbound detour: Right at Aviation Bl or La Cienega Bl, Left at Arbor Vitae St, Left at Airport Bl, Right on Century Bl Eastbound detour: Left on Airport Bl, Right on Arbor Vitae St, Right on Aviation Bl, Left on Century Bl. During the month of June 2015, the Kiwanis Club of Hawthorne donated $750 scholarships each to Hawthorne and Leuzinger High Schools in the Centinela Valley Union High School District, and Hawthorne Math & Science Academy (Hawthorne School District) to help deserving seniors continue their education. Alexis Flores was the recipient at Hawthorne High and will be attending Cal State University Fullerton to study Sociology. Karla Gonzalez was the recipient at Leuzinger and plans to attend UC Irvine to study Accounting. The candidates receiving the scholarships were selected by the respective schools.
