Tardy reported that deputies responded to a call from two victims who said two black males pointed a gun at them. The suspects were stopped and found to have a gun, wrapped in clothing in the backseat of their car. Officers obtained a search warrant for the suspects’ residence, but turned up no other weapons. Tardy cautioned residents to observe the department’s protocols in the event of an observable crime. She warned against getting involved. Instead she asked victims and witnesses alike to “call it in” with a requested that the Council clarify proposed code amendments and alignment to state mandates regarding high-density construction projects and income restrictions on affordable housing. Several residents requested increased funding for the police and fire departments. Randall Abram stressed that extra resources be allocated at the upcoming budget meeting. “There have been two homicides in two months,” he said.
