Bet you can’t adopt just one! “If I didn’t believe that things happen for a reason, I would have given up by now. My name is Lester and I’m a one-year old male Miniature Schnauzer mix who is finally ready to find my forever home. Just before Thanksgiving 2016, I was out searching for a turkey and not paying attention to where I was going had dire consequences. I got hit by a car and what a mess I was when I arrived at an LA city shelter! I had a broken jaw, broken pelvis, broken femur and a dislocated hip. The angels at MSFR took pity on me--I think it’s because I’m such a cutie pie--and rescued me. They never gave up on me even though it took four surgeries to repair the broken bones and the medical bills were piling up. Then it was discovered that my urethra had been damaged, so two more surgeries were performed to try and correct that problem. I’m not sure if it will take more time for my urethra to heal, but it’s a good thing that bellybands come in such great styles because they may become permanent of my misfortunes haven’t dampened my spirit or my optimism in my quest for my forever home. I ended up at an LA city shelter as a stray after getting lost in a terrible rainstorm. I was trying to find shelter when I think I may have been hit by a car. I can’t exactly remember-- possibly doggie amnesia. However; I do know that I arrived at the shelter with a broken femur, in pain and a horrible mess. When the MSFR folks rescued me, the first thing on the list was a trip to their veterinarian. He examined me and concluded that surgery was the only answer to repair my femur. I had my surgery in January followed by two months of rehab and then my two-month post-surgery x-rays. The conclusion is that I’m doing splendidly, but would greatly benefit with some walking therapy to strengthen my muscles. Thank goodness I’m only 10 pounds, so there’s not much weight to put on my leg…but I’m thoroughly enjoying being able to play again. I’m truly a good-natured young lady who gets along great with small dogs who also love to play. Because of my size and being slightly fragile, a home without young children would be best for me.” If you’re interested in Josie, please email info@msfr.org for more information. “Have you ever seen a two-year-old, 60-pound, male Catahoula mix dog? If you’d like to meet one, just ask for Earl. I was rescued from an LA county shelter where they called me a stray, but I was just lost. I’m very intelligent and would be a great addition to your family. I have fine leash and car manners, I’m housebroken, plus crate and doggy-door trained. I aced my leadership-based obedience classes--but like many large-breed adolescents, I can be stubborn. I would do best with an “alpha” handler who has experience and time to help me fulfill my potential. In fact, I thought I had found my forever home, but unfortunately I was returned after just a few months. My over-scheduled adopter decided that she did not have time for a young, very active dog who’s a happy, playful, affectionate boy. I absolutely love people of all ages, sizes and genders.” If you are interested in meeting Earl, please email Emread@verizon. net for more information. Congratulations to Sunny, our rescue from early February with the inguinal hernia, and her new family. Sunny, who is now named Lola, met her new mom recently at our adoption fair and it was love at first sight. Lucky Lola, who now lives in Palos Verdes, has a 12-year-old human sister and a 10-yearold human brother to lavish her with love and attention. This little gal is their very first family dog, so they’ll have lots of fun, happiness and adventures to share. Have a wonderful life filled with love! •
