June 4, 2015 Page 3 Hawthorne Happenings News for the ‘City of Good Neighbors’ From City Clerk Norb Huber HOLLYWOOD FRINGE FESTIVAL’S MIGHT AS WELL LIVE COMES TO HAWTHORNE Producer Jason Gromski and Writer/ Director Adam Scott Weissman announce the up-and-coming play Might as Well Live is adding a onetime only performance in Hawthorne, in addition to its run at the Hollywood Fringe Festival. Based on four hilarious and heartbreaking stories by famed author Dorothy Parker, the show will have a single performance on Sunday, June 14th at 3:00 PM at Gallery H at Phantom Galleries LA, 12619 Hawthorne Blvd. A minimum donation of $5 is recommended for entry. 2015 HAWTHORNE HALL OF FAME The “World’s Greatest Athlete”, a daredevil, a community servant, a bunch of music loving guys, and a service-oriented business have been selected to be the inductees of 2015 Hawthorne Hall of Fame. Their names are: Jim Thorpe, Carl Beonish, Reese Walton, the original Hawthorne Beach Boys, and the business inductee is Seers Lumber. The Hawthorne Historical Society proudly announces these selections and invites the public to attend the Hall of Fame banquet and awards program to be held on Friday, July 17 at the Memorial Center. Tickets are $30 per person and will be available for sale at the Hawthorne Museum or by contacting hawthornehistorical@gmail.com. GOOD NEIGHBORS DAY It’s hard to believe that we are already sponsoring the 5th Annual Good Neighbors Day here in Hawthorne on Saturday, July 18 at the civic center. There will be three bands performing on stage this year. Each of which has a different sound. The annual car show will be once again in full swing early in the morning. Food and street vendors will be there to greet all those who come on out to enjoy a great day in Hawthorne. I LOVE MY PET CLINIC – THIS SATURDAY AT CIVIC CENTER The City of Hawthorne is sponsoring a pet clinic this Saturday, June 6 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in front of city hall. The clinic will offer low cost rabies vaccinations and microchipping. Dog license renewals will also be offered. For more information, please call 310-349-2935. HOLLY PARK HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATION TO HOLD PANCAKE BREAKFAST The Holly Park HOA will hold their annual Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, June 13th at Olivet Lutheran Church located at 2506 West Imperial Hwy in Hawthorne from 8 a.m.-12 noon. The cost is only $5 for adults. All funds raised go to a scholarship given each year to a deserving high school graduate. POLICE AND FIREMEN TO BE HONORED The Hawthorne Rotary and Kiwanis Clubs jointly sponsor a luncheon each year to honor one police officer and one fireman from our Hawthorne stations.
