May 29, 2014 Page 3 Hawthorne Happenings News for the ‘City of Good Neighbors’ From City Clerk Norb Huber Will You VOTE this Time? Yes, Tuesday, June 3 is ELECTON DAY in California. Turn outs in the past for these primary elections have been between 10 to 12% of the registered voters. Will you take the time to exercise your right to vote? Will you take the time to read the candidate statements and study the issues? The voters of California will be voting on the following statewide offices: governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state, controller, treasurer, attorney general, insurance commissioner, members of the state board of equalization, representatives to the congress of the United States from each of the 53 congressional districts of the State, state senators from even-numbered districts of the 40 senatorial districts of the State, members of the assembly from each of the 80 assembly districts of the State, and the superintendent of public instruction. The top two vote getters will square off again in November. In addition there are judgeships and ballot measures to consider. I realize it’s a lot of work to figure all of this stuff out. But, Memorial Day reminds us that men and women have died to give us this freedom, we really should take this election and every election seriously. Please VOTE this Tuesday. Poll Workers Needed It may be too late to volunteer to be an election worker for this election, but there is a big need for poll workers to cover future elections. When you work at a polling place you really feel that you are part of democracy. Our constitution guarantees our citizens the opportunity to vote for the people to represent them. Without poll workers we wouldn’t have open and free elections. Commissioners Wanted There are still openings on the Seniors and Veterans commissions of the city of Hawthorne.
