Franklin to have his colleagues approve city sponsorship of the 2016 District 4 Annual Christmas Toy & Food Drive Celebration was given the go-ahead. The event, which will take place at the Beat 4 Police Community Center located at 2666 W. Imperial Highway on Dec. 8 from 5 to 8 p.m., asks that people donate unwrapped toys, staple food items, food gift cards and retail gift cards. “As the state of the economy has begun to gradually recover, many families still face an uncertain future,” states the Council Initiative report presented by Councilman Franklin. “The citizens of our nation are being forced to make some tough quality of life decisions with regard to themselves and their families and its is in these tough times that those who are willing and able, step up and reach out to those who need the most help.” For the past 11 years the city council, community groups, residents, block clubs, local businesses and organizations have gathered to donate to the cause. Councilman Franklin has built a reputation organizing charitable events during the holiday season. The Councilman dedicates several months to preparing to help Inglewood families in for the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons. The big event for more than a decade has been the Annual District 4 Christmas Toy & Food Drive Celebration, which is a partnership among a plethora of local stakeholders. “As Christmas approaches, many continue to experience a very difficult time providing for their families during this season,” wrote Councilman Franklin in his council initiative. “Giving people hope in the midst of challenging circumstances may be only temporary but can go a long way towards reminding people of what is truly most important to all of us-our families.” For this year’s outreach efforts, Councilman Franklin will attempt to assist 50 families with an estimated 150 kids, attending preschool through elementary in District No. 4. “I will also look to assist approximately 100 low/very low income Inglewood senior citizens, foster families and other Inglewood residents through the City of Inglewood’s Annual ‘Gifts from the Heart’ Program which is under supervision from our Parks, Recreation and Library Services Department,” concluded Councilman Franklin. • Inside This Issue Certified & Licensed Professionals.......................2 Classifieds............................3 Community Briefs...............2 Hawthorne Happenings....3 Legals................................ 6-7 Pets........................................8 Police Reports.....................3 Sports....................................5 Weekend Forecast Friday AM Clouds/ PM Sun 68˚/63˚ Saturday AM Clouds/ PM Sun 70˚/64˚ Sunday AM Clouds/ PM Sun 70˚/63˚
