Photo provided by SBWIB Police Department Will Have Camera Operating Equipment System Installed at Local Medical Facility By Cristian Vasquez The Inglewood Mayor and City Council approved a Memorandum of Understanding with Prime Healthcare Centinela [Centinela Hospital Medical Center] that will allow for the installation and maintenance of needed equipment to operate the Inglewood Police Department’s camera system. “The Inglewood Police Department operates a video camera system that is used to aide law enforcement efforts by improving responding officer’s situational awareness, and providing evidentiary video that can be used to capture and prosecute individuals,” states the staff report signed by Inglewood Chief of Police Mark Fronterotta. “Currently, the Department has cameras installed at approximately twentyfive (25) intersections, critical infrastructures (such as the Water Treatment Facility and water wells), and Siminski Park.” Through a network of wireless receivers the current camera system is capable of relaying camera feeds to designated viewing stations located in city hall and at the Police Department. The camera system is also aided with the placement of other receivers on tall structures within city limits. One of those receivers is at the time located on the roof of Hollywood Park Casino. “This structure has been scheduled for demolition after construction of a new building has been completed,” indicates the staff report. “To keep the camera system operational it is mandatory that the equipment be relocated to another tall structure within the City.” While there are plans to expand the department’s camera system to 20 more intersections, including Rodgers Park, the approved MOU will allow the system to operate from the roof of Centinela Hospital at no additional cost to the city. “After conducting site walks and tests potential locations, it has been determined that Centinela Hospital (located at 555 East Hardy Street, Inglewood) is an ideal site to relocate the equipment,” states the staff report signed by City Manager Artie Fields. “In order to proceed, it is required that the attached MOU is approved by City Council. The MOU provides specific terms and conditions for the City to use the facility for the aforementioned purpose.” The MOU will be in effect for five years and comes with no direct cost to the city. In addition, the agreement prohibits the city from making any roof penetrations of the hospital’s roof in order to install any equipment. The hospital is also free on any “liability for loss, harm, damage, or injury whatsoever, including direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages or losses, resulting from a failure or loss of power, damage to or the destruction of the equipment, restrictions imposed by governmental authority, conditions beyond its control, or otherwise,” states the staff report.
