May 11, 2017 Page 3 Hawthorne Happenings News for the City of Good Neighbors from an Old Guy named Norb Huber Never Changes “The more things change, the more they remain the same.” Jean-Baptiste Alphonse Karr was a French teacher and author who first coined this term many years ago. You may question whether this phrase could possibly be true these days with all the changes and advancements in technology that we have seen in the last five or ten years. I argue that it still holds true. There are some absolute truths that never change. Our employment or living conditions may change. Our surroundings or emotional outlook may change, but some things never change. No matter how complicated and sophicated our lives can get, the love of our families remains a constant true value. We all long to be loved. We need others. God has put us in relationships to love and care for one another. This truth became real clear this past week as my eldest daughter, son-in-law, and our two grandkids made the decision to move to Northern California in about a month as they have accepted new jobs up in Roseville, CA. We will be seperated by miles but the love my wife and I have for our grandkids will remain. Isn’t it true that no amount of money can ever replace the joy of seeing our kids and grandkids grow up and experience life? Sometimes we get so busy that we miss the very simple things in life that means so much, like a three year old grandson saying, “Papa watch me”, or “Happy Birthday Papa”. Some of those moments only occure once in our lifetime. We will be reminded of this truth this Sunday as we show our appreciation and love to our mothers. The love between mother and child is a “no changer”. Everything around us may be changing, but the love we share with our families and the love that God has for us never changes. Those truths will never change, they will remain the same forever. DEADLINES OBITUARIES: Monday at noon. CALENDAR ITEMS: Monday at noon. PEOPLE ITEMS: Monday at noon. CLASSIFIEDS: Tuesday at noon. Pastor Carlson, who recently retired from his 50 year plus ministry that included many years at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawthorne, won the match play championship at Sea-Air Golf Course in Torrance recently. The good Lord must have been on his side when he sank a long putt to win on the fourth hole of a sudden death playoff. 8th Annual Pancake Breakfast for Holly Park The Holly Park Homeowners Association will be holding their annual Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, June 17th from 8a.m to12noon at Olivet Lutheran Church in Hawthorne.
