Upon a final inspection by the LACHD it was discovered that the capacity of the large pool tank was undersized. Opening of the pool was approved for July 4, 2015 under the condition that the upgrade for the large pool tank takes place before the 2016 swimming season was opened. The pool is currently closed, but scheduled to open on July 3, 2016. On Jan. 6, 2016 the city received $103,000 from the Los Angeles County Proposition A, Maintenance and Servicing Funds to be used for repairs at the pool. “Following successful completion of the rebid, a budget amendment will be necessary to transfer the funds to the appropriate expenditure line,” states the staff report. “This will be done along with the award of the contract.” Community Invited to 68th Annual Memorial Day Service The City of Inglewood invites residents to be a part of the 68th Annual Memorial Day Service scheduled to take place on Monday, May 30 at 11 a.m. This event is hosted by the city to recognize past and present war heroes, in addition to honoring the men and women who sacrificed their lives as members of the United States Armed Forces. The national holiday, first named Decoration Day, was born in 1868 after the American Civil War. During the first Decoration Day General James Garfield delivered a speech at Arlington National Cemetery, while 5,000 attendees decorated the graves of the 20,000 soldiers, both form the Union and the Confederacy. Memorial Day would become the official national holiday in 1967. Inglewood’s Memorial Day event will be hosted in front of the Memorial Obelisk at Inglewood City Hall, located at One Manchester Boulevard.
