The rules also state that if a transitional status employee is terminated because of a lack of budget, the grant-funded program has ended or the appointing official leaves office or is not reelected, “the transitional appointment of said employee will automatically terminate from the City services no later than when the appointing Councilmember successor assumes office.” However, the council assistant can be reappointed by a different councilmember, or in any different transitional position within city service. The allocation of funds by the council will create four fulltime transitional positions for each elected council member’s assistant and will coincide with their time in office. Currently the positions of Assistant to City Council exist on the City’s Salary Ordinance and are filled on a part-time basis. “The Budget Amendment will better serve the needs of the elected officials and the citizens of Inglewood by being able to work forty (40) hours per week as opposed to only 28 hours that part-time employees are eligible to work,” states the staff report. Base salary for part-time Assistants to the City Council is set at $70,843.20 per year, but two assistants will received a slightly higher salary due to bi-lingual pay.
