April 4, 2019 Page 3 Hawthorne Happenings News for the City of Good Neighbors from an Old Guy Named Norb Huber Unplaned Me and my ol’ lady don’t go to too many movies these days but when I am told that a movie has a really deep Christian message then I am more inclined to check it out. We checked the listings and found our movie playing at a nearby theater for the senior bargain rate of $5.50. “Unplanned”, the movie, is the story of a woman who becomes a director of a Planned Parenthood clinic despite the disapproval of all of her family. She became the best director she possible could become, even winning an “employee of the year award”. But, after seeing an actual act of sucking an embryo out of a mother’s womb she decided that the whole procedure was too much for her. She could not continue to lie to clients about how quick and easy the procedure was. The question is and always has been, “When does life begin?” If you are prolife then you believe that it begins at conception. Then if that little embryo has life, then ending it is killing. However, on the other side, if the little blob inside is just tissue matter then disposing of this non-human is the easy way out of taking responsibility for the child. Recently, the states of New York and Virginia have authorized late term terminations. How can anyone say that the baby at this stage is not alive, not a human? There is a bill introduced in Congress called the “Sanctity of Human Life Act”. Part of it reads as follows: “the life of each human being begins with fertilization, cloning, or its functional equivalent, irrespective of sex, health, function or disability, defect, stage of biological development, or condition of dependency, at which time every human being shall have all the legal and constitutional attributes and privileges of personhood” This bill will not pass Congress. Watchdog predictions give it a 5% chance of passing. God gives life, we are to respect and protect all humans, inside the womb or out. I fully understand why a young woman would consider abortion. There are other options available. I believe that abortion is wrong. Does God forgive the woman for ending a pregnancy? Yes. Can God take her guilt away? Yes. God is full of mercy. God forgives.
