December 18, 2014 Page 3 Hawthorne Happenings News for the ‘City of Good Neighbors’ From City Clerk Norb Huber Christmas Gretings! It’s time to send out Christmas cards. It’s time to write a letter to update our friends on what we have been up to this past year. Since I can’t think of a lot of things to write about, I thought I would share a “watered down” version of my family Christmas letter with my “extended City family”. Christmas is a time to celebrate, a time to rejoice that Jesus has come to be our Lord and Savior. TIME is measured in moments and memories. 2014 has been full of many memories. Here’s a short list of my most memorable 2014 memories list: #1. Watching my two grandkids grow up. Jordan is 3 and Wyatt is 1 and they bring me joy whenever they come over. My daughter Karla and son-in-law Ron have the full-time job of raising them in addition to working their regular day jobs. #2. Traveling to see America. From visiting NYC and Washington DC to hiking up to an ice berg filled lake in Glacier National Park, it’s been fun to see so much of our great country. ( I was able to attend major league baseball games in four new stadiums this past year. Of course, we all know who won the world championship again in 2014.) #3. Enjoying our favorite activities. My wife really enjoys her sewing when she is not watching the grandkids. I enjoy my time on the golf course as it provides a needed break from my teaching and city clerk work. There is nothing better than hitting a great golf shot close to the pin or sinking a long putt. #4. Spending time with friends at church and civic events. Our entire family enjoys our church’s annual pancake breakfast, Hawthorne’s Good Neighbor Day and the annual Christmas tree lightings. I love to be part of the planning and organizing of a special event. The 2014 Hawthorne Hall of Fame banquet was a great event to be part of. #5. Working as City Clerk to make Hawthorne a better place to live and work. Believe it or not, I really do love to be part of Hawthorne’s city governance. I like to feel that I am helping to run our city council meetings and allowing our city council to make those tough decisions that are needed to keep us moving forward. #6. Running a small business. I love the challenge of providing a product to customers who are looking for nativity scenes to decorate their houses with. Honorable mention: I still love to teach high school students Math, and I enjoy writing this weekly column to share my thoughts with you. My life is full, full of great memories of working with people in Hawthorne. By reading this long list, you may say that my life is full and overflowing. It’s time to celebrate once again. Enjoy your family gatherings. Enjoy a cold one, or a warm one, or whatever you like to drink. Life is too short to worry or complain. Have a blessed Christmas and Holiday Season! Memories are blessings from God to help us remember how blessed we are. City Hal Holiday Schedule The Hawthorne City Hall will be closed the Week of December 22-26. It will be open on December 29-31.
