Several speakers during oral comments spoke about voting issues. One suggestion was made to separate Lawndale into districts and elect a member to the City Council from each district. Another suggestion was put forth to not have a separate election for the city’s mayor. It was explained that the separation of the mayor’s election from those elected to the City Council was instituted following a ballot referendum that citizens voted to be the policy for Lawndale municipal elections. The suspect was transported to UCLA Harbor General Hospital and is reportedly in stable condition. The Homicide Bureau is now in charge of the investigation. Citizens are reminded that incidents of this severity are rare in Lawndale and they can rely on the LA County Sheriff’s Department and all deputies to be at the ready to mitigate any incidents of this magnitude as expeditiously as possible.
